Those who did had no problem playing in game in Hearts, albeit with an earlier version of GIB so I cannot be sure it would have been mirrored. Indeed at least one player with the earlier version also chose to open 1H and rebid 3D, to which North then bid a very reasonable 3H, and game in Hearts resulted. At my table, North over 3D decided to conceal a known 8 card major suit fit in favour of a fit of potentially only 7 cards in a minor, and in the process showing a 4th Diamond that he does not hold. You make valid points about showing preference for hearts but I saw something else I want to comment on. Gibs second pass. Yes, I know it really doesn't have enough to bid 2♥. However, especially in competition, wouldn't it be better to show a small lie right away with trump support then later make a forcing bid 3♠ which isn't even close and is game-forcing?
