the hog
Imps, 14 board match, weak opps. Board 9 Diamonds are A9x Q876x You have to bring in this suit for 1 loser to make the contract. Entries are no problem. Do you play for an intra finesse or do you cash the DA and play to the Q? Opps won't find the intra finesse! Does it make any difference if the opps have played well to date and on board 7 stumbled into a making 4S which requires SK on side together with a 3-3 break? You know your pds will be in the non making 3N. Pd wasn't pleased with my line.
luke warm
roland and ben can check this, but it seems you have to play the ace first if you need 4 tricks... for 3 just lead the 6, 7, or 8 from long side
inquiry
I am not ready to try the intrafinesse on this hand. First we still have five hands after this. Second, it is unfortunate i can see a game swing for them at our table, but I have no idea what has gone on at the other table so far. Finally the intrafinesse is much worse than standard ACE and then low toward Q.. .(hooking only if the Jack or ten fell behind the queen under the ace). How much worse is the chance to make 4 tricks by playing low to the eight first compared to the ACE? I guess it 49% for ace versus 29% for the iintra finesse. So i guess you are right, it is unlikely your oppenents will find it. Even if everything has gone as expected at both tables and I am behind, i don't want to be down two swings with five boards to play. So with these odds, I make the standard play here.
