I'll just post here. Better to wait with the official announcement until the app is visible in apple and amazon stores too. Less confusing :)

Support for multiple languages, including Chinese.

Friends/Following now distinguished from each other

ACBL Instant Tournaments

Free weekly instant tournament available in the Play Bridge area

Live travelers while playing a tournament

Apple just approved the latest mobile app release. Version 3.91 should be now available for Android, Kindle and very soon for Apple (might take up to 24 hours until the Apple version becomes visible in the app store).

See release notes here.

Feedback, comments, suggestions, bug reports welcome.

Adverts? An appalling addition. How do I downgrade to previous version?

Ads are part of Version 3.91. In previous versions players would only see ads when playing anonymously.

The way ads are displayed on the mobile app is now similar to the other versions of BBO (web and downloadable client). Free areas see ads. As soon as a player plays something pay or engages in other commerce activity (eg. rent robots) ads will be hidden for 24 hours.

Do you have an alternative business model to suggest?

Yes, paid/pro version of app that removes ads.

Ads totally ruin it for me and I've contacted Fred about it.

Unless a lot of people object it's unlikely to change.

So I've stopped using the mobile BBO app.

Btw, I don't mind it in the web client, but the limited screen estate on mobile and the blinking ad is a total killer :(

And how much would you be prepared to pay for the pro version?

I ask, because the option is already available, but perhaps you think it too expensive at $0.25 per day (and only for the days on which you play).

Or perhaps (and with this I sympathise) the inconvenience of paying $0.25 on a daily basis is too much.

I never play on mobile client, only kibitz vugraph and interesting tables.

For that purpose I'd say maybe $10 or $15 but I could go higher.

And I just don't want to think about if I have money in an account or not.

If putting money in an account there would remove ads forever in mobile client, sure I can do that.

It shouldn't be too hard to release a paid version for 10$ on Google Pay that has no ads right? A lot of programs work like that (although for less money). If nobody buys it, you still don't lose too much programming time.

That's true. But I wonder if there might be a bit of a catch 22: If it is unpopular, it is not worthwhile doing it. If it is popular, then the advertising revenue may take a hit that more than compensates for $10 (or whatever) per head. Presumably all the other commercial companies have done that equation and it works out OK.

One possible drawback is that if you go through Google Play then Google expects a kick-back from the in-app purchases, which might then include a % of all the current revenue stream through paid services. THAT could be painful.

Re: ads, if it matters, the blinking ones are the only ones that make using the app impossible for me on my droid mini (small screen like iPhone 4). The nonblinking ones I can live with.

Thanks

In order to let mobile users get happy playing experience on bbo,I suggest that BBO should create mobile tournament only for mobile users, for example,Mobile Bingo Race.

To promote Mobile BBO version,BBO have to take corresponding measures and BBO should do more from now on If possible.

I think the idea is to make it possible for people to play on BBO from any device (mac, PC, mobile, tablet) rather than promote one client over another. That said, there are probably more urgent features to align on mobile than Bingo, like CCs or training tables for example.

Having real connection issues only since the update to 3.91 on a new iPad. The connection will be lost every couple cards using a wireless 100/mb home notwork connection. Usually playing anonymously with the robots.

I tested the connection to bridge base from another iPad running update 3.87 and have no connection issues at all from the same exact location in my home.

Any ideas, is it possible it is a bridge base problem or since it is a connection issue it is related to my network configuration?

I play on mobile only occasionally, but I do find the ads very annoying. The blinking/flashing/animated ones are the worst, although I suppose the whole point is that they get your attention.

I definitely agree there should be a pay version of the app that is ad free. This is common with many apps: free with ads, or one-time pay for ad free. $3-$10 seems to be the normal range based on what I have seen with other apps.
