Responding To Pre-empt

Recommended Posts

NEVER EVER JUMP over a pre - that should be a control ask

This is an interesting point. But it is not standard. I play that all jump responses to preempts are control asks, so to get to 4 of a major after a 3 of a minor preempt, one has to bid 3 of a major (forcing) first.

I would never assume that a jump to 4 of a major was a control ask without prior agreement with partner.

Matchpoints

partner is quite agressive but wont have junk at these colours[/hv]

IMO 3 = 10. Pass = 9, 4 = 8. 5 = 6. Hard choice at Matchpoints,

I think the field forces to game on this hand (with or without a 3D opening), so i'm going to stick with them for now and bid 3H.

Passing isn't unreasonable and could easily be the technically best choice (eg. if the last making spot is 3H), but if that is the case we might only be salvaging an average.

I voted for 3. But I agree that passing is also very reasonable at MP.
