luke warm
i double also... how high do you play neg doubles and how do you define them? the only drawback (maybe) to x is partner passing
Walddk
Double. I hope we play negative doubles this high. In real life I play them through 4♠ even! My plan is to bid 4♦ over partner's 4♣ rebid. That should show a red 2-suiter since I didn't bid 4♦ (forcing) on my first turn. A direct 4♥ would be unilateral. We may have a diamond slam on, and even 5♦ could be a better contract than 4♥. Roland
luis
4♥ just a guess will be hard to tell pd you have 6 hearts if you start with anyuthing else. I think anything can work great or badly, flip a coin...

the hog
X and bid 4H over 4C to show the red suits with longer H.
han
I think that double followed by 4D would typically show only 4 hearts, here I have six. Double followed by hearts seems right, less unilateral than 4H immediately.
Fluffy
If you don't bid a suit with 2 suiter at this level you will never bid them both, so start with 4♥.

elbec
Thanks to everybody who answered to my poll! At my table the bidding went: 1♣ - 3♠ - DBL - pass6♣ (!!!) - p What do you bid now? I bid pass, and my left-side opponent bid 6 ♥ 6♥ -pass (obviously forcing) - p - DBL - 6♠pass (again forcing) - p Well... now I decided in a really brave way to bid 7♦!!!! Only heart lead sets the contract off... This was the dummy: ♠ ---♥ x♦ K10xxx♣ AKQ10xxx Bye all,Alberto!
Guest Jlall
I like how all of the Xers manage to tell us what they will bid over the specific auction pass on left, 4C by pard, pass on right. And even then they are not in agreement. In real life things don't always work out so well, and sometimes LHO bids 4S. Sometimes pard will bid 5C (we are void). Sometimes both. Then things get really murky. I think X is awful, and would never even consider it. my .02

What is...(2S)-4D the way you play? Is this leaping michaels? How about (3S)-4D You bidding your great diamond suit, without hearts, but maybe passing up on a potential 3NT contract? Mishovnbg's Meta overcall combine the leaping michaels concept with (if your partner opens) a thrump double...so here, on this auction... 1♣- (3♠)-? DBL is thrump looking for a spade stopper4♦ is round force and shows leaping micheals type hand, here diamond/heart two suiter This system solves this difficult situation hand, but introduces some problems with typical 1-4-5-3 hands where normal takeout double works better. Misho and I play meta overcalls only after three level preempts (opening or jump overcalls). Ben
P_Marlowe
4H, what I think, I can make opposite a normal opener. With kind regardsMarlowe
Cascade
I bid 4♦ showing both red suits. This is a like leaping Michaels as Ben pointed out. The real problems after a pre-empt is bidding hand that have two features to show. Therefore you need some methods to show two features immediately. This method does not give up much with a single suited hand in diamonds you still have three options: 1. THRUMP double 2. 3NT 3. 5♦ or even 6♦ The only problem with the hand in question is that 4♦ does not show the sixth heart. Playing this method if I did bid 4♥ and then 5♦ I would be showing extra heart length.
inquiry
I bid 4♦ showing both red suits. This is a like leaping Michaels as Ben pointed out. A wiseman.. .welcome to the dark side... :-) I use 4♦ here as showing either ♦ and other major (if their bidding is preemptive), or as fit nonjump (if their bidding is not weak). I can never simply show diamonds an nothing else. So far, haven't missed it. Double is thrump if theirs is weak or not weak with diamond one suiter, or like you said, I can close eyes and bid 5D to play. After a forcing diamond, what else you gonna do but end up there anyway if all you have is diamonds and you bid a forcing 4D? Ben
Guest Jlall
easy, 4♦... as roland said, that should show a red 2 suiter... if LHO bids 4S and pard 5C, i bid 5D justin, doesn't a negative double show that hand very well? negative Xs do not show 6-5 hands, with a 6 card major no. As for your 5D bid in that auction... with: xxxKxxxAKQJxx--- wouldn't you make a neg X? then wouldnt you bid 5D? Those bids are automatic. How have you distinguished this hand from the one in question?
luke warm
after 1♣ (3♠), yes i'd double with the hand you showed... whether or not i bid 5♦ would depend on what partner does... he might bid 3NT, he might bid 4H.. if he bids 4♣ i'd bid 5♦
