helene_t
It is a question of style as much as a question of hand evaluation, isn't it? If you want to know about what people think of Banzai points you might want to ask whether it is better or worse (or equal to)KJ6KJ6KJ67654 or QJ6QJ6QJ6QJ65 FWIW I would pass those two but I would (just) open with three aces. hrothgar
I passed a hand with three Aces and nothing but spaces once It did not turn out well at all...

phoenix214
Dunno, i just open every 11 count, sometimes it tours out bad, but still. 3 aces should still be a goodish 12, so I would. The only reason i would not open that hand although is if i would playing a style where I pass all 11 bal and some 12 bal,(Like say a 12-15 NT, where you skip on bad 12)
MrAce
There are so many horrible things I know that pds can do to each other. Coming from pass with 3 bullets is probably one of the worse if not the worst.
gordontd
There's an old story that I've heard attributed to at least four different players, but most consistently to John Collings, who was reported to have passed a hand with seven solid spades intending to "walk the dog". When the hand had been passed out, he asked his partner "did you have much?" The reply came back: "No, just a bare three aces".
Cyberyeti
There's an old story that I've heard attributed to at least four different players, but most consistently to John Collings, who was reported to have passed a hand with seven solid spades intending to "walk the dog". When the hand had been passed out, he asked his partner "did you have much?" The reply came back: "No, just a bare three aces". We scored 3N v a passout where partner opened 1N with the 3 bare aces (actually in second seat), I had ♣KQJ10xx and an ace and put dummy down saying "when I pass 1N partner always has 3 bare aces". I'm much happier opening the OP's hand 1N than if I have to open 1 of a minor and let opps in at the 1 level with hands that would pass over 1N. When I heard Gordon's story it was either 9 or 10 solid spades.

nige1
I want to know whether people would open first in hand with ♠ A 7 6 ♥ A7 6, ♦ A 7 6 ♣ 7 6 5 4 IMO 1N = 10, Pass = 6. Agree with Culbertson, who said you should open with 3 quick tricks e.g. ♠ A K x x ♥ A x x ♦ x x x ♣ x x xIn a previous thread, Mr Ace explained how, in seats 1 & 2, passing on such hands, can present partner with unnecessary problems

Tramticket
If playing a weak NT, some argue that this hand has little playing strength. But, just because you start with a NT bid, doesn't mean you will play the hand in NTs. Aces are usually worth more than 4, not less in suit contracts. The key is partner holding fitting honours to complement your aces. I open 1NT.
nige1
What ratings would you give if you had to open 1m rather than 1N ? IMO 1♣ = 10, Pass = 5. if I opened 7N on a yarborough what would that score me on the nige1 scale? Unless 7N made or you were dealt 14 cards, I wouldn't give it many marks :) Whatever the result, the tournament-director would have something to say :(
ggwhiz
There is a famous story from the 30's or 40's(?) where our hero playing rubber bridge passed 10 solid and 3 stiffs. When it was passed out he asked his partner what he had and he said "Nothing, just 3 bald Aces". I don't open flat as a pancake 4x3's .... except for this one. mycroft
I play a weak NT, 90% of the time...so even if I had a fear of Aces and spaces, there's nothing to think about. No, correct that. Playing EHAA, my weak NT is 10-12. So, is this too strong? I don't think so for 4333, especially when the 4-card suit is the aceless one. 4432, with the 3-card suit aceless? Much more interesting question.
