How many do you bid

Recommended Posts

For me it depends on table feel a bit. The question is - where do you see the auction going? If opps have the points they might have some 3NT/4S or 5m. Over 3NT you can sacrifice or let them play. For other game options it is harder. I suppose shooting 3H/4H will put up the pressure and might force them to guess wrong, - worse thing that could happen is that we get doubled for a -, and they dont have anything.

If you feel creative, 1!S might work out as well, this will keep them out of 4S, or has a good try, but has the risks that partner will raise like crazy, and it might be our hand(also some trust issues)

[hv=pc=n&n=sq2haqjt854djcj72&d=w&v=e&b=16&a=1c(2%2B)?]133|200[/hv] MP against aggressive opponents. 2 would be intermediate.
IMO 3 (Weak) = 10, 2 (Intermediate) = 9, 4 = 8, 1 = 6.

Completely non-sarcastic: anyone who thinks 2 is even a remote possible must have a very different definition of intermediate jump shift than I do.

In any case, this looks like 3 to me - too much defense even at these colours, and even against a 2+ 1 opening to bid 4.

Alas, on this layout 4X -1 results in the only score in the EW column. I was concerned about the outside defence. I think against other opponents I might have chosen 2 - although I see that is also debatable - the extra heart being equivalent to a side king?

I suppose the playing strength is about right but we should have had a heart less and a king more, or some such? I would agree with that.

Well, if you make it KQx AQJTxx J Jxx then I am fine with calling this an intermediate two - for me it would be a minimum. But this is also a stronger hand - both in terms of playing strength and defense.
