mike777
I thought deal 8 was very interesting on many levels, including partner's opening bid. For example I would expect most on the forum to open these balanced hands but pass sets up an interesting dynamic. assuming we know pard passes this type of hand. As for slam, 6h requires very little to have a play. Axxx..AKTx..xxx..xx
manudude03
Why, is AT9xxx not good enough for you nonvulnerable? I would absolutely bid 2♥ again every time. I suspect the good 4 card spade suit is a bigger turnoff than the quality of the hearts. I would have ended in 4H on that hand, damn that heart break :(. mike777
Opening weak 2 bids with a side suit can be a big winner esp if your hcp are concentrated in long suits. Of course everyone needs to know that is your agreement. Please note this is different from opening a 2bid that promises 2 suits.
jodepp
Hand 1: 2♠, probably on the way to 4♥. I'm willing to drive this hand to game at IMPs. Hand 8: Ugh. Is a negative X totally insane? I can correct ♠ to ♦ at the game level if partner responds unfavorably. 3♣ a decent second choice. Hand 14: If I had opened this I'd guess to Pass; this is just a case of disliking this choice less than other options. Next: 2♠ if forcing, 2NT inquiry if not. If pard shows something decent I'll try game in ♥/♠ at IMPs. Last: If 3♣ implies 'stuff' (i.e., 15-ish or 12 with 6+ clubs) I'll try 3♠ hoping this buys 3NT from pard. If pard's overcalls are loose, I think I Pass. A direct 3NT is just a bit too rich for me.
stoppiello
1) 2!s seems to be trying to aim for too small a target, 5 loser hand opposite a raise belongs in game, and since LHO was quiet, we know where everything is, so the play is a little easier 2) do we know its our hand yet, and where are all the spades? almost would think RHO is 2-suited in the blacks, neg double makes sense, and if p is 4/4/3/2 in shape, the correction to diamonds from spades shows our hand decently enough 3) 2 certain tricks, plus headache, and partner is asking us to do something intelligent, okay, we'll out-think ourselves and pass 4) I would think the 2N inquiry would work best, over 3!H, I'm tempted to pass, and over any positive noise, 3S shows where we are 5) 3S is at least a forcing bid (it looks like one) and says we have 'stuff' and length here, seems kinda obvious

Jinksy
On board 1, I feel like E had a clear 2♦ bid - I'm not sure exactly how strong a UCB that lets you out at the 2-level should be, but if a decent 8-count isn't enough, I think we'll be under- or overbidding opposite such hands frequently.
