weak two, second story

A couple of days ago, my partner had the following hand:

AQJxxx---xxx---x---Kxx.

Nonvulnerable versus vulnerable, I was the dealer and opened 2 spades - weak two. For this situation, we made the following agreement: "at least five spades and 0-7 points". After opponent's pass, what would you bid with partner's hand?

Let us suppose, you bid 4 spades and the auction continued

2 spades---pass---4 spades---5 diamonds

pass---6diamonds---?

What would you bid?

I think 4Spade bid was insufficient. I would've bid 5S/ 2S and let opps guess at the 6 level with the likelihood of not going down more than the value of any vulnerable game that opps might have (to wit: no -800).

Be a man, play Lorenzo two's: 0-7 with at least FOUR cards

Anyway, I think I'd start with 2NT inquiry (it you have such thing) and bid 4 only later. Don't push them in slam this easy. If they end up in 6, then I'll sacrifice in 6, but after 2NT many will be careful before bidding slams.

Sacrificing in 6S is a no-brainer. The thing is whether you sacrifice in SEVEN spades...

A direct 2S-pass-6S would have forced LHO to double you instead of bidding 7D. If you now bid 6S, they might bid 7D and you won't know whether that makes or not.

Pass.

Having made my choice of 4 spades, I live with the results.

I'm not big on the advanced sacrifice with this hand as it may be too expensive verses their game/slam, which they have as yet to bid.

Three other reasons argue for the pass: they don't have to make six, they may have missed a laydown 7, and we may have already won the board for a modest imp pickup if hearts are their spot instead of diamonds.

Well, my partner bid 6 spades and that was not a very good sacrifice, since my hand was

10xxxx---xx---x---Axxxx.

6 spades doubled from my left and down three, spades 1-1 and singleton spade king off, clubs 4-1, 6 dia down one.

You may blame me for my weak two bid, but I do not think that it was going beyond the agreement I made with my partner (0-7PC, at least five spades). Neither do I think that such bid is bad in the first seat when non-vulnerable against vulnerable....

In my opinion, 4 spades are far from using all the potential of this nice hand. Simple 5 spades are much better as well as any kind of psycho - in fact, you can bid almost anything and you can bid almost anything several times, when allowed.

Once I had similar hand like my partner, but just

AQJxxx---xxx---x---xxx

and my partner opened 2 spades promising weak two with 6 spades (at least  ) that time. I bid 4NT (Blackwood!) doubled from my left. Now, according to our agreement, I knew we had no ace after my partner pass and I could make a sacrifice with seven spades after opponents' 7 dia bid without any doubt (almost :) ).

I think that Blackwood is perhaps not that bad bid also in the presented example.

Sorry Jahol, if you play this style you frequently have to put up with these results. I wouldn't open 2S in a fit; nor would I open a 2 bid to show a 2 suiter with this dreck.
