Bbradley62
It appears to me that the hand was bid correctly but explained very badly.3♥ a cuebid showing first-round control in hearts.4♣ is a cuebid denying first-round control in spades and showing first-round control in clubs. 4♠ is a cuebid showing first-round control in spades. On a completely unrelated subject: this was IMPs; I wonder whether East would make a different decision as to final contract in matchpoints. 1eyedjack
I don't agree that 3H was a cue bid showing control in hearts. I think that it just shows 4 card D suit and doubleton Spade.
Bbradley62
What would 4♦ show over 3♦?
lycier
In general,as we know that the meanings of 3♥ usually is ♦ fit showing cuebid with doubleton in ♠.
1eyedjack
What would 4♦ show over 3♦?Possibly a double fit? These meanings have changed a few times between versions. But whatever, I would prefer to keep 3N open as an option after showing a fit for just the minor; at least until responder commits otherwise. As 3H is, in this sequence, the only bid below 3N capable of showing a D fit, I would not expect the bid to show anything else, such as Heart cue. georgi
4♣ is not meant to be splinter. It's one of the rare places where GIB starts cuebidding with K, but not bare King if that's the case. But it could be also singleton. So that is either 1- card or KQ+ suit. So it's a cue in general. Shows a suit where declarer won't lose two cards on lead.
