Al Michaels, always on top of gambling implications.

Gambling is what makes American football so popular

It appeals on all three levels

1) office pools, low wagers/ fantasy football/low wagers

2) medium level betters who love to bet and gamble and win with the bookies

3) hard core betters who bet on everything regarding football and the side show prop bets..In fact the prop bets are really important betting for these guys/gals.

Having seen my wife's relatives, friends, etc visit us in mass when Green Bay comes to town ...these guys/gals are on the phone making bet after bet all night.

to be honest I was a bit shocked when 30-35 years ago my coworkers were so open talking on the phone with their bookies during football season...no shame...they were happy and proud 30/35 years ago. Granted we were stockbrokers.

------------------

Just to be clear when I am talking about bookies....I am talking about the mafia...mob...bad guys.

there are a few places to bet with legal bookies but the vast number are leg breakers..bad guys.

Steelers think they know how to slow Rob Gronkowski down

Posted by Josh Alper on September 7, 2015, 3:56 PM EDT

When Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been healthy during his career, attempts to stop him by opposing defenses have generally ranged from futile to laughable.

The Steelers are hoping to change that on Thursday night when they open their season against the Patriots in New England and they feel like they have the right plan to make it happen. While their opponents would almost certainly keep such plans to themselves, the Steelers aren't being shy about sharing that plan days ahead of kickoff.

Safety Mike Mitchell says that Gronkowski is successful "when people don't put their hands on him" and linebacker Ryan Shazier said that the Steelers don't plan on giving him that kind of welcome to the 2015 season.

"You just have to jam him up a little bit, mess with his timing," Shazier said, via ESPN.com. "If you mess up their timing, they are really time-oriented. You have to mess up their timing and get in his face with pressure, then I feel we can slow him down a little bit."

Curious that the steelers seemed not to know where he was on all of those plays, much less get a linebacker to chip him...

Picking up RG3's 3rd year option was dumb, not cutting him now is even dumber. They are wasting a roster spot on a player they can't possibly afford to play.

Instead they're playing him on the scout team ... as a safety. Bizarre.

You guys watching any particular game this afternoon? Haven't really settled on one to watch, might just end up watching the Red Zone channel.
