How to bid slam ?

Recommended Posts

Me and P play 2 over 1 and P opened 1. I bid 2 and P bid splinter

3. As Im minimum for my bid I suggested 3NT with good hold in and a

stopper in . Over my 3NT P bid 4 which I passed as we played matchpoints

and I assumed he had 6 cards. My question is if I shud have bid 4 over 3

as my P said but I thought he could have rebid to show firsthandcontrol or he

could have bid 4.

Your partner is passing the blame to you when he is at fault.

What would a 3H bid over 2 diamonds show? Solid suit and fit? Even with 3spades, I would have rebid 4 spades over 3NT with his hand, or at least a forcing 4 diamonds. Don't beat your self up, I can't really fault you.

I'd be banned from this forum if I used the appropriate language to describe PD's bidding. How many tricks is his hand worth after you bid 2 GF? OK he's concerned about C perhaps but should realize that you have to have something there for 3NT after his splinter and should bid 4 which after your 3NT is very suggestive of slam.

If PD is beating on you for not Qing 4 he should realize that you're showing a balanced min and you need to agree that his splinter shows major interest in slam even opposite a min. Then you can safely Q 4 and hopefully not have him go nuts with lots less for his splinter.

Hi,

the auction was ok, but should continue over 4H.

3NT over 3S, to show the spade stopper is obvious, but the 3NT does not show any

club values at all.

With 4H Opener showed a 64 hand, you have 2 Aces to cover 2 off his 3 outside

loosers.

Given that, you could bid 5H, which would ask about suit quality in hearts.

I am not sure, I would find the bid on the table, but ... well.

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: 4D instead of 4H is certainly ok, I dont like 4S, because it commits you to

an 11 trick game, and you may have 3 quick loosers in clubs.

I don't think 3NT suggests anything in clubs at all, it suggests spade honnors. But 2 does, in the form that giving partner 12+ HCP is really tough without a club honnor. Not impossible but unlikely.

As You and Ben said partner is too strong for 4 after 3NT. I think 4 over 3NT shows a club control with interest in 6, so 4 will make it clear to partner where our problem is. I prefer 4 over 4 for that reason.

I don't understand what is waiting for bidding 4NT: when 2 is partner sure 12-13 points almost, South has to bid 3 to show its solid suit and also with 3NT must bid 4 refuseing NT having unbalanced hand and on prevision of 4NT (tendentally 6 keycards) void can be shown with 6 ...,bye.
