Partnership Bidding Practice

Hi, would it be possible to set up the partnership bidding software so that North can also see and bid the E hand; and South can do the same with the West hand. Might work better than the current way of introducing interference. Should have started by saying that, like the rest of BBO, partnership bidding tables are wonderful!

Thanks for the suggestion, but we are probably not going to be making any changes in this area in the near future.

 

Do you know that you can have one of the players see all 4 hands and bid for both of the defenders? When you start the table click the "opponents' bidding" button and select the option for "controlled by host".

 

This option can also be used to allow a "non-bidding host" (ie a kibitzer who created the table) to present realistic interference to the 2 players.

When I tried this today as host but sitting in a seat I could not see the E/W hands to bid them. I did get a bidding box. The hands did show up after the auction.

 

Maybe the host option only works when the host is kibitzing.

You are right Wayne. Sorry for the false info.

 

Not sure if the way it is now is best (I suppose an option would be better), but it is working as designed.

As I suggested earlier, the bidding practice would be more interesting, if the 2 players could see all 4 hands (not only 2) AFTER the end of the bidding. They can discuss and analyse the given contract without assistance of the host.

If both players see all 4 hands, and want to bid based on that, sounds like what you need is just a hand generator that you both can see.

 

Just create a teaching table, make it invisible (so nobody will wander there by mistake), keep hitting "Redeal" whenever you want to change boards. Host/Teacher sits, the other kibitzes. This way the default chat->kibitzers won't affect you.

I did not say that, Rain. Both players bid normally, they see only 1 (own) hand during bidding. When the final contract is known (after pass, pass, pass, ie end of the bidding) will they see all 4 hands. (Its easy, what can we lose, Fred?)

 

Btw at teaching table u need always a 3rd man (the theacher), and u can't create random but special deals (1nt opening practice, for example).

I know this is Partnership Bidding stuff. All the same, I like to know, if there is anyway that one person can practice bidding by seeing both hands and being able to bid for himself and partner.

 

I know, many may consider this crazy. But I somehow like this idea, where you can practice different bidding conventions, by setting up the different constraints for both the hands separately.

Thanks to all for comments. Would it be possible, Fred, to plan some improvements to this aspect of the software for the "almost near future". Its such a great feature of BBO that it would be worth improving it.
