It may be that nothing went wrong here. If it did go wrong it was subtle. The truncated explanation of the redouble is that the opponents cannot be permitted to play undoubled below 2N. Accordingly a pass by South instead of X of 2H would have been forcing. That being the case, I would expect X to be strongly suggestive of taking a penalty (what's with the "2+ Hearts"?), over which I question North's decision to pull it. Before the results merchants point it out, I acknowledge that 3N+1 scores better than 2HX-2. But I wonder whether North got lucky in deciding to pull. Perhaps South's X is bad?
