I doubled. I thought it might have two ways to play and everything else seemed too unilateral
trevahound
Double, but 3nt over pard's 3♠. 3nt might easily win though.
mcphee
The problem with saying double that I see is getting you past 3N in addition to facing this hand as a dummy making the K of H vulnerable to the lead. There is no doubt we have the right shape to double but this had is yelling NT to me.
helene_t
Not easy. I think I double and raise anything to game except that I cue over 4c - maybe p can show diamonds then by bidding 4nt? Immediately 3nt could easily be a better choice, though. 3n protects my kh and makes sure we don't bypass 3n when we shouldn't. Dbl finds the spades fit and may reach slam if p can make a positive. aguahombre
Need more information. If lefty is a BBF'r I won't downgrade the heart King or worry about wrong siding.
MrAce
Dbl is perfectly normal and probably the right bid. Knowing myself, I would bid 3 NT at the table.
Fluffy
The bid upside of double is when partner jumps to game and we find slam.
wclucas42
Double, but 3nt over pard's 3♠. 3nt might easily win though. why 3NT over 3S? Partner should know we likely have a fit. Is this a Serious 3NT Bid?

wclucas42
Thanks everyone for the comments, at least I didn't get "No no, none of those bids" this time. Let's fast forward in the auction to what I think was my crucial mistake... [hv=pc=n&s=sakq9hk9daq92ca85&d=w&v=b&b=16&a=3hppd4h4sp]133|200[/hv] Partner's positive response here had me thinking about slam, but we were now, as was pointed out, wrong sided against the heart lead. How would you proceed to look for slam? 4♣ control showing cue bid 4NT looking for a 5♣ or 5NT response 5♠ voluntary 5 Bid Bash straight to 6♠ At the time I chose 4NT looking for 5♣ or a 5 NT response, and was greeted w/ 5♥ by West and Dbl by partner. I should have anticipated Blackwood interference. Double meant (to me) 0 Keycards (DOPI). Neither of us new how to show the void... I made a simple raise to 5♠ figuring if partner had that useful void he could bump it to 6... Uncertain what to do, he passed. We went 5♠+2 If I were to do it again, I would probably bid 5♣, but assuming west still overcalled 5♥ how would I expect partner show his void? The full hand played out like this: [hv=pc=n&s=sakq9hk9daq92ca85&w=st765hjt87d843cq2&n=sj842hdkj5ckt9643&e=s3haq65432dt76cj7&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=3hppd4h4sp4n5hdp5sppp&p=hah9h7s2sjs3s9s7s4h5sas5hkh8c3h2sks6s8h3cac2c4c7c5cqckcjd5d6dad3sqstc6h4dqd4djd7c8htcth6c9hqd2d8dkdtd9]399|300[/hv] The 7th trick was due to the lucky 2-2 club split, but slam was cold. The other table, while not actually played by real people, played in 3NT losing only the ♥A at trick 1. Net result for us a measly 1 IMP. wclucas42
I am confused. Is preemptor on our right or our left? Sorry helene_t, I was definitely in the balancing seat. I fixed my diagram's from today.
wclucas42
I think Lucy was holding the football again for Charlie Brown. Very apt, I must say. It definitely feels that way a lot. I don't have tons of free time, and trying to jam my questions in here when I am being interrupted over my lunch hour or in the evening when my kids should be getting my attention means I get distracted resulting in a lot of ID10T type errors. Add to that I am still still in over my head and trying to understand a lot of this and it's usually a recipe for disaster.
