Gib have no way to handle 16-18hcp with balance at 4th seat

I had previously reported that Gib can't handle 16-18hcp with balance at 4th seat.

After 1♥,I am 4th seat,but very hard to show my 16-18hcp with balance hand.

 

1- bid 1nt :1nt shows 11-15hcp with balnced hand at the 4th seat.

2-double : after pd's 2♦,re-bid 2nt shows 19-21hcp.

 

Now I don't know how to show 16-18hcp with balance hand.

 

Now I have another hand to show it.

I don't care wether 1♠ is correct,but 2♠ says "4+♠",it is wrong.

So I have to say that Gib have no way to handle 16-18hcp with balance at 4th seat.

Agree ranges need to be fixed. First one jump to 2nt should be the 19-21 so your sequence should have been right.

These are fixed in next version.

 

1NT/2NT ( where there is no jump ) would promise 16-18HCPs. Direct 2NT ( without Double first ) promises 19-21, so Double and jump would promise the 21-23HCPs.

 

Also if partner has bid a major, NT would deny 4 cards and will show 2-3 in that suit. For minor would show normal NT shape.

 

So cases 1 and 2 are fixed.

 

 

Hand #3 ( board 6) is kind of exceptional, where 1NT cannot promise 16-18, but 19-21, as 1♣-1NT 15-18 was skipped, very unlikely situation to be again 16-18. What would you do with 19-21?

Personally, on Hand 6 (ie third example hand above) I would have made a direct seat 1N overcall.

But North was a robot, who chose otherwise, presumably for want of a second diamond.

But if you require GIB to double on such hands, which are otherwise in-range for 1N, then you have to decide what North is required to do when South bids 1D. Frankly, he is stuck between a rock and a hard place, especially if 1N now would show a hand too strong for a direct 1N overcall.

 

I think that you need to resolve this before there is any prospect for dealing with the questions that you raise.
