Phil
6♦.
wank
just 5. partner seems odds on to have 0 aces and there's the 4th spade to worry about.
masonbarge
5♦ Partner has a bid. He won't bid 6 with one ace, but will surely bid 6 with two.
ArtK78
5♦. Along the lines of what wank said - even if partner has an ace (even the spade ace!), there is still the issue of the 4th spade. And, as mason said, 5♦ does not necessarily end the auction. gnasher
4NT and convert 5♣ to 5♦, showing a one-suited slam try.
Fluffy
7♠, surely partner has ♠A10xx ♥Qxxxx ♦x ♣Qxx or something like. On real life 5♦ looks like enough, but Andy is right, if we can invite with 4NT we should. I don't plan on selling to 5♥ anyway.
whereagles
5♦. Even if pard has a fitting ace, slam is FAR from cold.
ahydra
Would 4NT -> 5D not show a two-suiter with diamonds and spades? 5D sounds right; I'm not punting slams at IMPs. ahydra
lamford
Thanks all. I bid 5D.
MrAce
Thanks all. I bid 5D. I know it does not matter what the result is, and I agree with 5♦ unless I have an agreement like Andy does, but just out of curiosity, was it the result or post discussion or both/neither that made you ask this question? I did not think double was right, with one downside that partner might pass with scattered balanced values. I agreed with wank about the chances of partner having an ace and the possible spade loser anyway.
whereagles
I think you were just outlucked. :D
