5. Along the lines of what wank said - even if partner has an ace (even the spade ace!), there is still the issue of the 4th spade.

 

And, as mason said, 5 does not necessarily end the auction.

I know it does not matter what the result is, and I agree with 5 unless I have an agreement like Andy does, but just out of curiosity, was it the result or post discussion or both/neither that made you ask this question?

In the other room they doubled and reached a making slam. I did not think double was right, with one downside that partner might pass with scattered balanced values. I agreed with wank about the chances of partner having an ace and the possible spade loser anyway.
