  1. 1. Bid?

Ok. K and K are good cards, A is ok card but Q and J are poor cards.

Was it IMP scoring?

In MP 4NT S/O would be a clear bid trying to score at least same number of tricks that spade games score.

In IMP my hand looks even less perfect for a slam because I would expect a bit more active slam tries. So I would probably just tell partner I don't have good cards for a slam. But what is the best contract? 5 level requires one more tricks but is often our better fit assuming partner is holding 5-5 for the biding. For that reason I feel like biding the 4NT S/O also in IMP assuming it should be likely to make 10 tricks after a slam try.

I think your evaluation is a bit off, Partner expects us to have wastage in hearts when we bid 3NT, AQ9 is so much better than KJx or KQx, There are better heart holdings such as AJ10, but not many. On the other hand K and K are not just good cards, they are amazing!. If we were on a 12-14 NT context our hand would be a monster. but the preempt has put us under pressure so we have a wider range, still we are worth a cuebid at least and I would go to slam unless partner sings off.

I dislike 4NT to play, as I can easily imagine losing 3 clubs and something else in the wash for 1 down. If partner is a presumed idiot I will hope he doesn't go too many off in 4S.

My hand is min and I could certainly have more for my 3n bid but my hand quality

opposite a dia spa 2 suited is actually pretty darn good.

1. we have a dia fit

2. Kx of spades with the K being a superb card and

3. the doubleton a far greater asset then a singleton or a void

4. dia K is a great card for slam

5. Heart ace is a great card for slam

the above 5 could almost all have been missing when p bid 4d. 5 positive

factors is monstrously huge and a failure to at least make 1 move toward slam

seems to make one guilty of dereliction of duty. One almost wonders if a

6d might actually be better than 4h but the expected poor break in spades

and possibly in diamonds makes a 4h cue seem sufficient. I would probably

consider bidding 6d if p were to suddenly try and sign off in 5d and I would

raise a 4s bid by partner to 5s. One need to appreciate that this hand is about

as close t a miracle hand as one can get with a minimum opening bid changing the

heart Q to the spade Q would definitely have been enough for me to jump to 6d

over 4d.

Hmmmm.....playing online, as I suspect they were, I am not sure how we can tell whether partner is singing off, or signing off.

If he were singing, then I think we need to take another call, but if he were signing, then we pass. At least that's how we play singing bids here..
