Bbradley62
What would 2♥ have shown over 2♦?[hv=nn=GIB%20N&n=SAT963HKQ64DJ65C4&d=e&v=o&b=14&a=P1C(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B)P1S(One%20over%20one%20--%204+%20%21S%3B%206+%20total%20points)P2D(Opener%20reverse%20--%205+%20%21C%3B%204+%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21S%3B%202)P2S(5+%20%21S%3B%207+%20HCP%3B%20forcing%20to%203N)]270|270[/hv]
iandayre
I am sure you can guess - it would be 4th suit forcing to game. Not ideal of course. There are ways around this but I will have to refer to some old notes for more details. The other issue is that if there is no non-game forcing way to bid Hearts, then 2NT would probably be a better bid than 2S. As would 2D. This is reminiscent of the recent discussion with Georgi about inverted minors. GIB is too obsessed with point count and not sufficiently concerned about reaching the right strain. And also another example of the programmers' frequently allowing GIB to make bids with insufficient suit length or strength for that level. manudude03
And also another example of the programmers' frequently allowing GIB to make bids with insufficient suit length or strength for that level. 2S only shows 5 of them here. I'm indifferent when it comes to what 2H means, natural probably makes more sense though.
Bbradley62
Is anyone able to fabricate that auction to see what GIB would have meant by 2♥?

1eyedjack
I bet it's Hearts and forcing to 3N. Nearly all new suits are in GIBberish.

1eyedjack
Yes, I suppose this was your point of the thread. Although I don't like the method.
Bbradley62
Actually, I presumed that 2♥ would not be natural and game forcing, since North did not make that bid. So, I'd just like to know what it actually shows in GIB's system.
iandayre
I missed the fact that it was a reverse. We know that 2S is forcing, but yes, excellent question, what would 2H have meant, it seems like a normal action for this hand. Some play 4th suit at the 2 level over a reverse as the negative with 2NT natural, but I don't think GIB does. I'll try to remember to look at 2H the next time this auction comes up. scarletv
Is anyone able to fabricate that auction to see what GIB would have meant by 2♥?Fourth suit forcing -- 4+ ♠; 8+ HCP; forcing to 3N
Bbradley62
Thanks. That seems to be a subset of the 2♠ explanation. It would be nice to know how GIB distinguishes between these two bids (or bidding NT with the fourth suit well stopped).
