Jordan is an annoying talentless [edited..uday] who only manages to get anywhere in life by the size of [edited..uday]. She has no pros whatsoever.

However if you meant the convention whereby:

1M (X) 2NT shows a good raise to the 3 level, it is useful because the strongish balanced hand can be shown by a redouble, hence there are no useful alternative meanings for the bid.

That was an incomplete answer.

Jordan shows (usually) specifically a limit raise in the major-- i.e., 4 pieces of trump. With three trumps most people start with a redouble followed by a raise of partner's suit to the appropriate level.

This doesn't cost as the redouble alerts partner we have the balance of power. Partner will usually get another bid (the hand will never be passed out in 1M xx as doubler isn't going to let it sit if his partner passes). If not, the redoubler certainly will get to bid again. For example, 1 spade, double, redouble, pass, pass 2 clubs and now 2 spades by the redoubler (instead of x or a new suit) would show exactly 10 points (ish) and precisely 3 trumps, as he chose not to use Jordan.

The jump to 2NT therefore, not just shows the known major suit fit earlier but tells partner about that valuable 4th trump... often the deciding factor in deciding whether to bid game or stop in a partial.

it is one of the best conventions in the game imo. it has virtually no downside, and lets you have intelligent auctions when you are raising partner and lets you show your support immediately.

I found it offensive that there was no mention of all the championships he and the Bulls won. :)

Question for all of you Jordan users:

If you use Jordan as invitational or better, does it make sense to use your usual Jacoby 2NT structure after Jordan?

Now that we are on the subject, many people also play "Jordan" after partner opens 1M and they overcall, although this is not as common. Would you use your normal structure here too?

I was approached yesterday about signing in 46 - yes 46 youngsters . At a school in the States the teachers were given the go ahead to set an 'unusual learning class' . One teacher offered to Teach Bridge - 46 have registered.

Naturally I have passed on the intelligence to him that BBO is the ONLY place for them to practice and that the BIL if of course the best place of all :) and that BBO Educational Software is essential to their bridging success.

I would like to think that I can refer all of these youngsters to BBF and the beginner intermediate forum in particular as they join up.

<sigh> if only there were more Beginner level topics

I like using Jordan in an interesting flavor - I like using Good/Bad 2NT instead to show either a Leb hand, a forcing raise for pard, or an en passant bid to 3NT.

This allows us to play the cuebid, as a limit raise purely, along with fit jumps, and splinters via 2NT then a bid.

With 1H-2S, 2NT, then 3H is a limit raise.
