People leaving tables

Recommended Posts

I think I've set a new record, person joined table for v.first hand, bidding completed and they left after their partner led their 1st card.

It may be they had a legitimate reason but a quick gtg is all required!

They didn't disconnect just up and left and were still logged on!

Can we put up a news item warning people that this behaviour is unacceptable and in future people should report to abuse?

I've noticed it getting worse recently and it seems to take about 8 players and 4 boards until you have a consistent 4!

Finally an apology to Free as well as I had to leave mid-hand today on first board when my v.senior boss phoned me and I had to leave urgently (won't do it again) :(( - it was for legit reasons and I did post have to go!!!

No problem m8 B) Lucky you only had to play the last card and your partner was smart enough to take your seat and play it :(

I hate it when players just up and leave not saying anything, often to go and play at another table. This is rude and unacceptable behavior and players making a habit of this sort of thing should just not be allowed on the site. They can do this on some other site.

It seems unreasonable to keep reporting these sort of players to a yellow or to abuse, surely they have better things to do. One thing you can do is make a note on the players name chart and if they come to a table you are at refuse them entry or if not hosting the table refuse to play with them.

My feelings are if you want to join a table for 1 or 2 hands it is not really very fair to the players seated. Fred has dealt with this for players that are joing a tournament not allowing them to sit 15 mins prior to an event starts, a lot better than before.

If you are a player who table hops, please don't even think about asking to sit at a table I host, we do not need you!

I mark them as enemy unless then say sorry and really leave BBO.

Quoting dr Phil,"how's that working for you?" :D

Does it help?

Do you think you eventually will lose the problem?

Does the problem seem less now?

Or do you find there are still one or two you have

to blacklist "every" day?

:P

I dont think it can solve the problem, not even make a signifisent change, but i still do that, i wont play ppl i dont like.

I already said i dont think there is a global solution to this problem, the solution is local , try to play more with ppl you know.

:D i also mark them as enemy with an appropriate note. you have to do something. i play mostly team games and we take people at their word that they are expert and will stay for the match if possible. if they are not or dont, then i mark them and tell the team organizer not to pick these people if they ask. it does not make me happy to do this, but i think there is no option. :P

I understand the not staying for the full team match.

But what are the "expert" criteria you use to blacklist

those who you think don't measure up?

There are a significant number of people who seem to table hop. One of the most significant differences between BBO and OKbridge (that I have found) is that an empty seat on BBO is almost immediately filled (and no one even asks whether it is OK to sit -- I find that rather rude), while on OKbridge is often takes a few minutes to find someone to fill an empty seat (and they generally ask, at least say hello, before sitting).

I think a useful feature would be some sort of table note that allows someone who hosts a table to make some sort of brief statement about policy at their table.

You can create tables which require permission from the host to sit (or even kibitz for that matter). BBO allows you to _enforce_ that policy instead of just allowing you to say it. Personally, I would be happy if an empty seat at my table gets filled quickly. If you are waiting for a particular person to sit, BBO allows you to reserve that seat for them.

I find that acceptable, since the table host conciously decided not to check "permission required to join for players". I would still ask, but it's matter of etiquette really.

That exists already.

Every Table has the Table Description facility. Maybe if more HOSTS used that to state their 'table rules' they would have less problems.

If enough desriptions say " You will be reported if you leave this table unannouced during a hand " players hopping about might get the message.

Yeah nobody seems to read table description. Someone suggested a long time ago we have an automated matching service that matches by

1) your self selected skill level

2) systems or conventions you play that can be checked off. (systems will probably work better than conventions). So everyone gets to participate in a survey if they care--can select systems they play in some chart. Then if a host selects "only precision" for his table, only precision players can enter and play.

Others feel the private clubs work better, but at last check, most private/public clubs are sad and relatively empty compared to MBC :-s (except BIL, world play refugee, total points, Sheps)

i also hate table hoppers :-)) sadly there is not much to do about it :-( i mark them as impolite and send them a private message telling my feelings usually get an answer ''sorry, was bored , partner is not what he says he is ,etc...:-)) reprting them is not efficient i aggree wouldnt want to be in the yellow'place they would have a hard time cause there are too many table hoppers . just take the time to deal with it yourself: private messages maybe in time it will have some effect:-))

some people "see" the claim slower than others... some never see it... i think the point is, nobody should just leave without saying something... 'thx for games all, i have to run' is fine

I agree, people should always say gtg or bye or something,

no matter how long they've been at the table.

Tablehoppers seem to be very impatient, some even leave

before they arrive.

For me "?????????????" or "..............." or "why H????? why C?????

why D????? WHY S??????" people are more annoying anyway.

Not to mention people who don't say "glp" "typ" and don't

say a word for an hour.....it really doesn't take alot of effort.

I agree with all you are saying, except this. ty or typ when dummy comes down is fine, but why dummy must say glp I can't understand. In real life bridge you say thanks or something similar when declarer sees dummy, but dummy never says good luck partner.

Why should it be different on the internet? I don't think it's impolite not to wish partner good luck. I think it's just fine to do the same as you do at the table with an ftf partner.

I understand what you're saying,when I play

with f2f partners here in Norway I usually say

"værsågod makker" not "lykke til".
