jillybean
Hi,Ok the honeymoon is over, I thought I could run tournaments and not use an enemy list , thats not the case :) Can someone give me the intructions to create an 'exclude players' list please. I don't want to use 'exclude enemies', my enemy list contains names with varying shades of black - not all I want to ban from my tourneys. ty
uday
create a file on your pc, containing one username per line, no trailing spaces while creating a tourney, specify 'exclude users from a list (file?) on my pc' you will be prompted for the filename when you save the tourney. Each time you save the tourney. Note: 1. You can use the Friends/Enemies screen (there is a LIST button) to manage the list of usernames if you want 2. I hear a low level but persistent grumbling that the lists dont always 'take' when the tourney is saved many times, or perhaps when the list is used in conjuction with other filters. I have never been able to quite pin this down.
shoeless
Jillybeans - don't get choked at using an exclusion list - you are doing the right thing. I think as a director you have the responsibility of protecting others from the antisocial player, to the extent you can - I also believe that you need to protect your management time for directing tasks other than dealing with the problems these folks create. Over time - be prepared for your exclusion list to become quite sizable. To quote a bridge legend (can't remember who off the top of my head) - "Bridge is essentially a social game that unfortunately attracts a large number of antisocial people" Keep up the good work - quality counts. Rain
I hear a low level but persistent grumbling that the lists dont always 'take' when the tourney is saved many times, or perhaps when the list is used in conjuction with other filters. I have never been able to quite pin this down. Wasn't this a bug before? I thought its solved now, but till last week taptopa (Experienced TD) still had this problem. He says the solution is to go back to tourney area, and reselect (no enemies) and it will take if done a 2nd time.
jillybean
create a file on your pc, containing one username per line, no trailing spaces Thanks Uday, I created a file in Word, first time I tried to use it I couldn't access it from tournament setup. Saved it again as Text Only in Word and all works fine. jillybean
audither
Jillybean makes a comment in her question of how to use the BLOCK list. I don't want to use 'exclude enemies', my enemy list contains names with varying shades of black - not all I want to ban from my tourneys. Most TD's have a list of players who they may choose to "exclude" from their tourneys, which may include players who have a history of being rude-abusive-quitters etc. In addition, there are players we have played with, who, for whatever reason, we as individuals have no desire to play with again. Thus creating as Jillybean refers too it as "shades of black". TD's could really use an additional catagory which would not exclude playes who we dont wish to play with again seperate from their "JERK" list. Creating a "custom" list is certainly a option, but when your "black list" has over 300 names it gets to be a chore to seperate the "JERKS" from the "just don't want to do this again" list Audither
mycroft
Jillybean brings up a point that as a (primarily) Un*x administrator in a (primarily) Windows company, I see *a lot*, and should perhaps be made explicit: Word Documents ARE NOT text files! They contain formatting, font selection, centring and colouring information, etc...They are also designed to save in a proprietary format that, in the past, has been tweaked to ensure that it can not be read by other programs. They also tend to be about 40 times larger than they need to be - grumbles the mail admin who sees a 100K .doc attachment sent to "everyone" - which consists of one page of text. Every year, I'm told, someone gets caught by the "program C in Word" problem. Strangely enough, it doesn't compile, even when everything's nicely coloured like it is in the book... Yes, you can save as plain text, but I strongly recommend the use of a text editor for handling text files (because *I*, at least, frequently forget to change the default "save as Word 97 format" every time. Oh, and they start a hundred times faster). If you don't have a real text editor, you can always use Notepad (sorry, did my bias sneak out there?) Michael.
