chasetb
This was played at IMPs with a pick-up partner; would it make a difference if it was MPs or if you were NV? [hv=pc=n&s=sakq9742hdkt6ck97&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p1s2hp3h]133|200[/hv] Part 2 [hv=pc=n&s=sakq9742hdkt6ck97&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p1s2hp3h3s4hpp]133|200[/hv] All 4 hands Am I just unlucky to lose @#$+%^& 11.3 IMPs on this hand???[hv=sn=chasetb&s=SAKQ9742HDKT6CK97&wn=Robot&w=SJT5HAQT32DAQJ9C5&nn=Robot&n=S6HJ854D854CQJT64&en=Robot&e=S83HK976D732CA832&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=P1S%28Major%20suit%20opening%20--%205+%20!S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%292H%28Two-level%20overcall%20--%205+%20!H%3B%2010+%20HCP%3B%2011-18%20total%20points%29P3H%283+%20!H%3B%207-10%20total%20points%293S%286+%20!S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2015-22%20total%20points%294H%285+%20!H%3B%2016-18%20total%20points%29PPP&p=S6S8SQS5SKSTD4S3SASJD5H7H6S2HQH8H2H4H9S4HKS7H3H5D3D6DQD8HAHJC2S9C5CTCAC7D7DTDJC6DAC4D2DKD9CJC8C9HTCQC3CK]400|300[/hv]
mgoetze
I would have bid 4♠ over 3♥ (and I decided that before seeing the result, which just illustrates the point, really - random QJ with partner is enough.)
kgr
I would have bid 4♠ over 3♥ (and I decided that before seeing the result, which just illustrates the point, really - random QJ with partner is enough.)Same for me (and opps are likely to make 4H if we cannot make 4S)
0 Subrata
"double" forcing for a round, I think this is the best bid
MrAce
I would bid 3♠. At these colors I can't be worse than this.Imho bidding 4♠ is bad. You are likely to end up playing everything from hand and score as much spades as you can, and this is if pd has 1-2 spades or friendly split.People raise majors to 3 level frequently with 9 card fit, this does not mean pd can not hold any wasted values. (if he has any values) I would end up with the same poor score you got. I can't blame pd for not raising to 4♠ of course.
bdegrande
4 ♠ any vulnerability or form of scoring. Partner will have no way of knowing that his minor suit queens are magic cards and that his weak trumps aren't a problem.
whereagles
Not having opened 4♠, namyats or 2♣, I find it inconsistent to bid 4♠ now, even though it feels like doing it.. LOL. So I'll go with an "unlucky expert" 3♠ bid, ha!
ggwhiz
In my experience 90% of BBO players bid too much and a confident 4♠ bid at your 2nd turn will get 5♥ out of them barring an unlikely spade stack. I've seen a LOT of 4♥ bids (then 5♥) by wests on complete dreck not to try the stampede which works more often than it deserves. At imps and these colors it might look like cheap insurance to take on some hands for some pretty decent players as well.
kuhchung
3S. 4S seems nuts to me edit: okay, lose 11.
WesleyC
I think an immediate 4♠ rebid is standout, particularly at IMPs. Occasionally partner will have enough minor suit quacks to bring home 10 tricks but that isn't the main reason. Bidding 4♠ over 4♥ is such a powerful idea that it will often be right even if the contract isn't making. Most importantly, an immediate 4♠ bid has huge tactical benefits, especially at these colours. The opponents could easily forget to double, and might be tempted into a phantom sacrifice. Even strong players make mistakes, but only if give them the opportunity.
marcindz
At those vulns 3!S and 4!S rebid. There is a chance that double would be avoided. At any other - 4!S (judging the worst case scenario is ~[-2]).
gszes
I have play if p has the Q9 of diamonds and see no sound reason foravoiding a rebid of 4s now. Aside from making there is a chance we may get x while making and evenif we are doomed to go down a very defenseless opp might run or we mightonly go down 1 which could be a good sac even at unfavorable. It is not easy for opps to x when they have no trump winners and are missing 2 other kings so bidding 4d now is actually far safer than waiting until the oppsbid 4h and if lho was not going to bid 4h p rates to have some stuff therethat should make 4s easy.
