Playing a 5 card M system I cannot understand how anyone could find a pass.

Playing a 4 card M system, Id pass as this hand has no ruffing values and the S support is poor. With the same shape and Qxx of S instead of C, again a raise is automatic.

Well you might not consider anything other than 2, but I certainly do. My distribution is bad, my Offensive to Defensive Ratio is slanted towards defensive. Partner opened in third chair, and maybe lighter than normal. So playing normal 2/1 GF without frills, I would pass.

Of course, I like some frills, and if I have transfer advances on heres, such that 2 here by me show "solid raise" to 2, and 2 by me is "weak raise", the I would bid 2.

Notice playing 5 card majors, the LAW probably dictates a 2 raise. And I am not overly concerned about 2 getting punished (it might be), my concern that when I bid 2 partner might not be in on the joke and bid again getting us much to high on a nothing hand. With transfer advances, he (and the opponents) already are in on my "joke" raise to 2 so we should be able to avoid going any higher than 2 when it is wrong to do so.

In borderline cases, I generally consider my holding in partner's suit. Here, I don't want to encourage a spade lead (should LHO come to life), so I pass. Given the same strength and shape, but with a higher honor in partner's suit, I would raise.
