How to bid a semi-weak 2 suiter aginst a 2NT

Recommended Posts

I subbed in a competetion team, f2f. Natural bidding. I had [hv=s=st9632ha9dqj8752c]133|100|[/hv]

My partner openend with 2NT, after due consideration I bid 3, xfer, she bid 4, superaccept with club values. I bid 4, p 4. Well, club values did not improve my hand, and I I was really afraid of a lack of di control, and passed.

Partner had [hv=s=st9632ha9dqj8752c]133|100|[/hv]. She said I sh have taken the control for granted.

Suggestion for a controlled way to reach 6 diamonds or 6 spades?

The board was quite expensive, as at the other table 7x was reached, doubled by the player wiKQ and A. The ace was led...

1)

I disagree with your pard's choice to open 2NT.

Opener did have a quite reasonable 1C opening planning to reverse in spades

2)

why should opener blame responder for not assuming opener has controls ?

esponder did cuebid after opener's superaccept.

Responder's cue did show something, and more or les responder has already made his step forward.

After responder's 4H cue, opener's 4S is a signoff offer, unless responder has extras.

Here, responder sees wasted club values, so I agree with her pass.

On the other hand, it is opener who should have moved forward: he knows responder has something, and he knows all suits are stopped.

Hmmm, seems to me opener has more values in than in . Nevertheless, it depends on your agreements on what 4 is (retransfer, control, something else). Imo it's a poor strategy to use retransfer after super accept in such situations. Slams are way more frequent.

I also can't see why opener should have a control, and there's indeed no reason to open this 2NT. It's an obvious 1 opener with a perfect reverse possibility.

Get a life guys. Are you seriously suggesting that pd should respond to a 1C opening on

Absolute rubbish! 2NT is ok though I'd be inclined to go via 2C 2D 2N or Kokish or similar. 4H should not be a re transfer - the hand is a bit unlucky for you. Incidentally, 7D is horrible except if you play against nutters who lead the CA..

File under: "Missed slams due to 2N opening".

This time I WILL suggest an auction where my 2 aids:

2 - 2

2 - 4

4N - 5

6 - 6

7

1. 2 = 19-21 OR 5 controls + 4-5 losers

2. 2 = 2 controls + at least another possible cover card

3. 4N = Trump ask

4. 5 = extra length (in this case 5 +) but no honors

5. 6 = splinter clarification

6. 6 = void
