mike777
dbl I am a passed hand.
kgr
Clear pass for me (I don't mean that pass is clear, but I mean that I would always pass).- I would pass again if partner bids 2D.(and RDBL if that is DBL'ed)- I partner DBLs 2C then I bid 3C. (that should be both majors after having passed twice?)
mikeh
We need to plan ahead. Doubling invites partner to rebid a 5 card diamond suit, which won't play well opposite this dummy, and we can't safely bid over 2♦. Meanwhile, our club length suggests he may well be able to reopen, and we are likely well-placed in that event. Doubling could work, but it seems too dangerous to me.
gszes
will not always work but x seems like the best bet here for a numberof reasons (being a passed hand irrelevant to the problem). 1. There is a very good chance partner will not be able to reopen with x2. Having shown the majors we have a great retreat route to 2h if p rebids 2dwhere p can pass or correct.3. If p rebids 2n I will try and correct to 3h4. if p can bid 2h or 2s we are already in a great spot we probably could nothave reached otherwise5. if p can bid 3h or 3s we have an easy raise to game which we might have missedotherwise. BAD NEWS 1. p might bid 3d (ick) pass2. p might bid 3c (semi ick) bid 3h and see what happens3. p bids 3n (ick) pass lots of part score advantages some game advantages and disadvantages seems like a very reasonable risk vs reward situation. quiddity
Are the passers planning to reopen if LHO raises clubs? (and if so, how?)
Fluffy
Bidding is wrong on shape, values and it is tactically unsound, why would I ever wanna do that?
kgr
Clear pass for me (I don't mean that pass is clear, but I mean that I would always pass).- I would pass again if partner bids 2D.(and RDBL if that is DBL'ed)- I partner DBLs 2C then I bid 3C. (that should be both majors after having passed twice?)I verified with my partner and he answered that:1D-(2C)-P-(P)DBL-(P)-3C=> 3C: 4=4=4=1But agreed that hand in OP is another possibilityAre the passers planning to reopen if LHO raises clubs? (and if so, how?)After:1D-(2C)-P-(3C)P-(P)-?I still pass. The only other option is 4C for me, but I'm too weak for that.
MrAce
If they raise clubs, our hand becomes potentially huge.
Fluffy
If they raise clubs, our hand becomes potentially huge. And if parnter doesn't bid a free 3♦ even better. But are you going to reopen with 4♣ or 3♥?
whereagles
Thx all. Full hand:[hv=pc=n&s=s3haj62dak9875cq8&w=sak92h7dj4cajt632&n=sqt865hkt853dc974&e=sj74hq94dqt632ck5&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1d2cpp2d2sp3cppp]399|300[/hv] I didn't double because I didn't want to attract a potentially disastrous diamond rebid. And sure enough, pard did make such a rebid anyway, which is why I let it go quietly. At the other table they manage to dig up the hearts.. no idea how they did it.. lol. Would you have rebid 2♥ on pard's cards, instead of 2♦?
Lord Molyb
I would not rebid 2♥, as that shows a much better hand.
nige1
[hv=pc=n&n=sqt865hkt853dc974&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1d2c]133|200|IMPSBid?(A 2♦ opening for the majors was not available.)[/hv] IMO Double = 10, Pass = 9, 2♠ = 8, 2♥ = 7. Hope partner won't expect too much from you after you passed as dealer.
Fluffy
So partner didn't double 2♣, and we know he has short in clubs, why didn't he?, well because he has short in a major as well, which one? gotta be spades... I don't think it is really obvious, but balancing with 3♥ is certainly possible.
jdeegan
I don't understand your reluctance to make a negative double the first time. You are a passed hand. Your playing strength in the majors is far above average for the bid. If partner responds 2♦, you can either bid 2♥ immediately or (better, imo) wait for a penalty double and bid 2♥ if necessary. WesleyC
I'm a strong believer that you should stretch to act on marginal hands to avoid a guess later in the auction. If partner is on the same page, i'll trust that they won't bury us in diamonds.

I'm not worried of pard responding 2♦ to the double. I'm worried of him having a couple extras and responding THREE diamonds or, worse, 3NT :)
