If partner now bids 3♥ should East bid 4♣? Who should be in control after 4 ♣ if the bidding proceeds as such? East seemingly has no reason to bid higher.Is it up to West?4NT RKB will do no good since all keycards have been shown.4NT followed by 5NT for kings will put it too high if someone doesn't have kings of clubs and/or hearts. mike777 Posted November 16, 2014 Report Share Posted November 16, 2014 you are never too weak to show a stiff after 2nt.fwiw you may wish to check out Bergen's version where you can show a minimum and a singleton.-- sure easy 4c now over 3h, pard is unlimited and should at this point just assume we have a minimum since we very often do hve one. yes it is up to west, over 4s I will pass, over 4h I will try 4s. IMO then, East should rarely, if ever, bid any kind of BW. I would say that East should cooperate with West's slam explorations, at least until game level is reached, so yes, he should bid 4♣ over 3♥. That may be exactly what West was waiting to hear. fromageGB Posted November 20, 2014 Report Share Posted November 20, 2014 Conversely, there is a good argument that a low-range opener should not show a singleton, as a low-range 2NT bidder is most unlikely to have slam. If you play that 3♣ is a low-range continuation, responder has the option of either showing a shortage himself or asking for yours, if he is mid-range. mycroft Posted November 20, 2014 Report Share Posted November 20, 2014 Of course, if your 2NT GF raise response structure has a bid for "almost any minimum" - especially the standard schemes where that's 3♣, with relay responses if responder still cares - then you follow the system, and you're happy for it when it goes 1M-2NT; 3♣-4M. If it doesn't, then you follow *that* system and show the stiff. That might be all partner needs. Of course, it might be all partner needs to end up in 5M-1, too.
