I wouldn't pass this hand playing Fantunes (I'd move a club in among my spades and open 2 if necessary)--I sure as hell won't pass this in 2/1. Now if I were to pass this playing Precision, I'd expect my partner to shoot me (or commit me to a mental institution if feeling merciful).

I'll bid 1 . 11 HCP with 2 QTs, but somewhere between 7-7.5 losers depending on how you many losers you assign Q10x. So I'll take the aggressive route and open.

IMO, 3 is virtually a game force. I'm just bidding 3 . I'd like to raise partner's , but that bypasses 3 NT which may still be a viable contract and possibly the last makeable contract.

Ur dealer. Nobody vul. All expert IMP game. 2/1 system A K Q 9 3 6 5 9 5 3 Q 10 4
Opener selected one , no surprise. LHO bid 2. Partner bid 3. RHO passed. Now what?
IMO 3 = 10, 4 = 6. 3 = 5. 3 = 4, 4 is too encouraging. To keep 3N in the picture you can rebid your 6-card suit. :)

4 might be the best game even on a Burnsian fit, opposite e.g.

J x x x K Q x A K x x x x

x A x x x x x A K x x x x

If P has solid stops in both the red suits, why couldn't he have bid 3N first time around (or 2N if natural)? The most obvious reason to me (other than not having stops) is that he's too strong.

If so, 'minimum' or no I have great support for a slam try, so I'm raising to 4. If he then bids 4 it must be an offer to play, and I can pass.

Pass.

I decided a long time ago, that I will pass 11 counts with 5332 shape.

It worked ok up to now.

We recently switchted to 11-14 NT opening, so we can open 1NT, in case

we dont have a 5 card major.

You happen to play 2/1, the only bid from p you can handle is 1NT, you

will pass, everything else will already lead to a feeling, why did I open.

If you really have to open, 2S, but partner will never give you AKQ in

spades. Besides, just because you pass , does not mean, you have to pass

the whole time.

With kind regards

Marlowe

<snip>

How about giving you maximal room to describe your hand?

3C takes away no room, assuming 2NT is Lebensohl, 3NT does, and 3H as well.

And sometimes partner has a stopper, like Axx, but prefers that 3NT gets played

from our side, if we have a (semi) stopper.

3 ask stop. We's got's two sources of tricks for 3NT.
3H. What else? 3C is forcing, you dont have a heart stopper, bypassing 3NT is no option.
Should 3 and 3 show stops or ask for them? With both red suits stopped partner can 3N, so with neither stopped, 3 seems safer.

Opener selected one [spades}, no surprise. LHO bid 2. Partner bid 3. RHO passed. Now what?

In the absence of playing 3 as conventionally showing waiting . . . I would bid 3 asking for a stopper. I am not sure if I can PASS 3 after that, but I sure as hell would want to.

So my proposed auction would be 1 (2) 3 (P)//3* (P) 3* (P) //3**

* Marking time. Nothing more special, tell me more.

** Pretty much this hand . . . nothing else to say or show.

However, most players do not play the next minimum bid = marking time. If partner bids 3 over my 3, I guess I have to bid 4, which I consider non-forcing (GF auctions forcing to 3NT only).
