Hi,

I found myself bidding a game over my pards 2 spade limit bid after bidding 1nt forcing.

I am not so much interested in the fact the contract makes or goes down, it is whether I should have bid game with my hand as I did in the above sequence or

whether I should have taken my other option of bidding a 2/1 game force as I had evaluated my hand worthy of a 2/1 game force bid. if that is your opinion, can you tell me your prefered sequence i.e 2 clubs or 2 hearts or what ever floats your bost.

 Hi,

I think you might want to reconsider your competitive bidding structure after a takeout double. I think your choice to leave 1NT as forcing is sort of non-standarded.

On 1H - X i would guess standard treatment would be...

   --> 1 forcing (by an unpassed hand);

   -->1NT = natural

   --> two-level new-suit response is not forcing;

   -->2NT Jordon, game-invitational or stronger raise

   -->jump-shift is preemptive; or maybe fit jump (becoming more popular0

   -->a double jump-shift is a splinter raise;

   -->a redouble shows any other hand-type with 10-plus HCP.

It is the fit bids and the redl that allow two of a new suit to be non-forcing. Having said this, I only play this way with pick up partners, i ahve different scheme i am using now.

Couple comments here:

1. RHO's Takeout double has a major effect on the meaning of susequent auctions. 2/1 Game Forcing applies to uncontested auctions. Your posting suggests that you intreprete your 1NT bid as a forcing NT. This agreement (if it actually exists) is somewhat unusual.

2. UGLY double by RHO

Not that I disagree with Ben's and Richard's comments, but I will try to answer the question you posed:

3S, not 4S, was the right bid IMO. All that shape may not be worth much with two trumps, and no information on fit. The fact that righty doubled is a small negative as well (I agree that it was a horrible double, BTW). Give yourself a third trump, and 4S is arguable.

Assuming that there was no double I'd bid 4 too. As partner is unlikely to have four diamonds it is likely to have some play and how is partner expected to get it right if I only raise to 3.

At the same time I'm prepared to look pretty silly opposite some hands :ph34r:
