How do we find a better contract?

PS: What does East need to open 3?

I thought that GIB played Leb over X of weak 2s.

Not only that, but it plays a non-standard version of Leb in which 3 of new suit is GF even if lower ranking.

But even without that non-standard treatment, 3H should be GF, not just "forcing to 3N". Which being the case, if North feels like temporarily concealing a Spade fit in the interest of patterning out, and feels disinclined to just bidding 3C first time (with which I agree) at least 4C (via 3H) would be forcing.

And I think that 5S was quite aggressive. But once it did that, you should try for the grand by bidding 6H, since you have shown no more than a minimum double up to that point.
There was no 5S bid, only 5C. I guess after that a heart bid would have shown A, but since I didn't know North had spades, 6 would have been committing us to 7 without my knowing about A.

What is Gib's plan? Gib cuebids to find a 4-4 fit. Find fit and shows a good hand with instead of agreeing . Why not just bid 3 and later bid to get across hand and shape, will save a lot of space.

Or maybe there is some way for Gib to make a slam try in after 3 like 4?

In my experience 6H would have been committing you to .... 6H :)

Hard to tell the difference between Clubs and Spades sometimes in these diagrams.

And yes Jack, very valid point. Especially after Georgi's notorious "fix" which was that GIB would not MAKE slam level cue bids any more, not that it would stop passing them!

In my experience playing with GIB, I commend you for getting to 6.

Getting to a grand with any partner is difficult enough after the 3 opening bid. Getting to a grand playing with GIB is next to impossible (except when you are off an ace).

I see Art has the same problem I do LOL. The actual contract was 6.

You would think this would be a good hand for GIB's oddball form of Lebensohl. Playing that way it could bid 3, then Spades later. But it still cuebids. Clearly the programmers need to scrap their version of Leb over Weak 2's for a more standard version.

Hey what do you know, I finally noticed the suit symbols!
