whereagles
I think if opps need the club finesse they will have to do it anyway, so no need to double for club lead.
paulg
what do you think of my lead directing x ?Not very much I'm afraid :) Partner is going to make a conservative lead against a grand slam. Declarer will either have 13 tricks on top or will have 12 tricks and have to find another trick. He will now forgo the club finesse as you have told him it does not work, so the only effect of your double is to potentially tell declarer the best line. Double should be used when you have the ♣A. p
EricK
It doesn't seem like a good idea to me. 1) I would doubt South is bidding a grand slam on a finesse. 2) If he needed to know about Kings he could have asked. 3) There is no guarantee that Dummy has the ♣A 4) If South needs the ♣ finesse (despite point 1) he will have to take it later anyway. 5) If he has a choice of finesses (despite point 1) you have told him which one of them will fail. 6) The likely gain (if you gain at all) is only 100 points the likely loss (and you are likely to lose) is much more. So the odds have to be really in your favour to double. Eric

EricK
i wish i always had the north hand when pard opened 2C It looks like he could respond 7NT straight away... ... although that way he doesn't get to play it redoubled, of course. Flame
Your double is wrong. The idea behind this kind of double is this: partner lead club, dummy will play the ace, then when you win the hand play another club and my king will take. as you can see this logic wont work against grands.Ofcourse it also have the obvious problem that this contract may be cold, and u might get redoubled, and worse sometimes it can help the declarer. ochinko
i wish i always had the north hand when pard opened 2CAnd I wish I always got doubled when I got 15 tricks from the top. Never mind the contract :)

Possibly one of the worst bids I have ever seen, (sorry). This double deserves everything it got. If the finesse was needed you have just talked them out of it. badderzboy
Wayne, Thx for posting, I'm sure that you knew when you posted the DBL wasn't the best but it was thoughtful of you to post it to remind fellow BILlies about when you should dbl for lead directing purposes and more importantly the dangers and info you provide opponents. Steve ;)

abernat
I think that double hadn't been a very bad bid, only if you wouldn't have have♣K ;)
Free
what do you think of my lead directing x ? I'm sorry, but do you really need to ask this question? :) The Dbl is by far the worst bid I've ever seen (once I saw a worse pass, but is that a bid?)! What suit do you want your partner to lead anyway? ♣ to your K, come on... If it's a trick, you'll always score it, and for this 'maybe' 1 extra imp, it's not even close to 'worth it'.
