jerdonald
BBO forum, Playing in an open pairs game recently my partner opened 1 club and I bid 1 heart. Partner bid 2 hearts which was passed out. Dummy had 3 hearts and the contract was made. After the hand was played one of our opponents asked why the opener supported my suit with only 3 cards and I replied that is our agreement. He claimed that had to be alerted. Is that right? trevahound
Depends on your jurisdiction. Where would it require an alert? I'm curious. Certainly not in ACBL land.
gordontd
Where would it require an alert? I'm curious. Certainly not in ACBL land.It might in France, where such a practice is unheard of.
barmar
The OP posted from the US, so it's highly likely that it's ACBL jurisdiction. There's no requirement to alert 3-card raises here. Some players make them more routinely than others, but they're still very common and not alertable.
mgoetze
Where would it require an alert? I'm curious. The German alert rules are technically unknowable but I would venture to guess that a majority of German TDs would consider it alertable. Siegmund
It's a tendency I'd like to see disclosed, even in the US. I don't know what the best method for disclosing it is; alerting doesn't feel like a solution.
sfi
In my one partnership where we play it as guaranteeing 4, we think that's sufficiently unusual that we highlight the agreement as declaring side when the auction finishes. But it does differ depending on where you are playing.
