Winstonm
If you don't bid 1NT, then what is the point of playing 2/1 as game force? This hand is only problematic if 1NT can be passed. Hence, Forcing nt.
Nabooba
I totally agree with the comments made by the two posters above, particularly with the hog's comments. Saying a bid is a gf does not make it so. This is a 1NT bid unless you lack hand evaluation skills.
wank
noone has claimed it's worth a 2/1. those who choose to bid 2♣ are doing so knowing it's an overbid because it has other benefits. you might not consider those benefits to be adequate, but it's silly to pretend they don't exist. yunling
1♠ 1NT2♠ 4♠ 1♠ 1NT2♣ 4♦ 1♠ 1NT2♦ 2NT 1♠ 1NT2♥ 4♦ Seem like pretty good auctions to me. I'd bid 1NT. Agree. This hand is not a game force opposite a 2♦ rebid, but has game value otherwise. 1NT gives you the most flexibility and does not really create problems. On the other hand, with an ATxxxx club suit, what's your rebid after 1♠-2♣-2♦? 2NT is certainly worse than 1♠-1NT-2♦-2NT, and 3♣ is also poor with such a bad suit. Even if p has some 5-1-4-3 hands where 2♣ is the only way to find the club fit, you are more belonged to 3NT than 5♣ with that heart holding. So I see no way can 2♣ be the better choice. Change the hand toQTAxxxxKQTxxxthen 2♣ may has its merit.
fromageGB
I can't see how you can make a 2/1 GF without going off in game on many opener hands. 1NT seems the only bid to me. Continuations depend on agreements, but whatever they are, they will be better than immediately forcing to game.
mgoetze
Partner opens 1S in second seat. Is this hand good enough for a 2/1, or > do you bid a forcing Nt?>> Q10> KQ42> 2> A108732>Sitting across from myself, I would bid 1NT. If CHO is someone who thinks you need 13 points to open, I'll bid 2♣.
