mangurian
1NT - 2C (single suited hand) - 2H - P (me) No announcement of a transfer. The bidders are known to play a simple gameand they had no conv. card. I held AQ10xx in H behind the heart bidder. If I had know the bid was a transfer, I would have made a lead directing dbl. They ended up in 3NT down one. My partner held KJ of hearts. opps are 3-3 in hearts. If I get the heart lead they are down a minimum of three. I called the director (and angered the opponents). What is the correct action by the director ?
PhilKing
If you had doubled 2♥, presumably they would not have bid 3NT, so it's difficult to know how to rule without seeing the hand.
Zelandakh
We also need to speak with your partner - some play X after a Capp 2♣ overcall and response as asking for the suit rather than lead directing. My suggestion would be for you to post the full hand with all details of what took place in the Rulings section of the site. There are experienced TDs there who can provide you with proper answers. blackshoe
Generally speaking, I figure people who get angry that their opponents called the director either know they did something wrong, or think calling the director is an accusation of cheating. For that reason the first thing the director should do is explain the purpose of director calls to these players. As for the ruling, what Zel said.
