gwnn
xAQT8xKxxJT8x We open light but I decide to pass in 1st, favourable@MP's. It goes: p-1S-p-2S3H-4H-p-4Send Partner dutifully leads the 2 of hearts and dummy mentions how useless her hand suddenly became: JxxxKJxx9xxQ7 the T wins, declarer showing up with the singleton 7 of hearts. What should I switch to?
whereagles
This is hard, as there are many scenarios. Overall diamond seems like the play, though a trump might work better.
PhantomSac
This is hard, as there are many scenarios. Overall diamond seems like the play, though a trump might work better. A trump is never necessary and is a horrible play, if declarer is 5143 then diamonds are 3-3 so he only needs one ruff, if declarer is 5134 then he again only needs one ruff. The question is whether to play a club or a diamond. I want to play a diamond instinctively, if declarer has say AKQxxx x AJx Axx or similar a diamond is necessary to beat the hand (before he pitches a diamond on a club). If declarer is 6142 with Ax of clubs we need to play a club to (AKQxx x AJxx Ax) before the club goes away on the diamond. I'm sure I'd play a diamond, we have added chances like AKQxxx x Qxx AKx where it's right. And with 6-4 perhaps declarer would have bid 4D. But it's not like this play is guaranteed to work and I'm not sure it's the right one heh. Instinct one time!
kuhchung
i would've returned a diamond without any of the thought process
gwnn
I was about to return a diamond without the thought process but then I started the thought process and returned the ♣J (playing declarer to be 5152 I think). Declarer had AQJTx x AJx AK9x and should have made it now but did believe I helped her that much I guess and didn't take the club finesse and drifted 1 off.
