Bid the grand

Recommended Posts

Seems to be easy enough if using a maxi-splinter convention. It gets more difficult if East raises to 5 voluntarily (as they possibly should).

1 - 2NT (mini or maxi splinter);

(3) - P - (4) - X (maxi + short );

followed by RKCB.

Even better if 3 is always a maxi-splinter rather than a two-way call (as I used to play it). Then you can show the void below 4 having cut out the interference.

West bids 3 if possible. He'll also double an artificial diamond bid. East raises to 4 (or 5) if possible whenever west bids 3 or doubles a diamond bid.

1-2 : natural; natural FG

(3)-3-(4)-5 : natural showing extra spade length; diamond exclusion

6-6 : 2 + Q outside diamonds : we have all the keys, you have anything else for 7?

7 : yep

I'm not sure if S should bid 7 after 6 or ask for something else, but if N knows that we have all the key cards and the void in diamonds that Ax of hearts and Kx of clubs must be golden if S asks again.
