fred
This is the one problem that is preventing us from releasing a new version to the general BBO membership by automatic download. It seems to be happening to a lot of people who have 4.1.0, but so far we have not been able to replicate the problem ourselves (which makes it hard to fix). As far as we can tell there is some specific BBO event that triggers this condition. For a while we thought it might be the result of a long chat->club message, but it appears that this is not the case. If you (or anyone else) can find some way to replicate this or figure out some pattern as to when this problem occurs, please let us know. In particular we are wondering if you ever see this bug in session that you never played at a table or in sessions in which you never joined a table. Kaapo
Bridge Movie went banans and some flags didn't show yesterday. I don't know if these are connected, but I encountered the missing flags phenomenon for the first time now. I have v. 4.1.0. I was playing in the Main Bridge Club. I noticed something odd in Bridge Movie: If I replayed old deals trick by trick and in the middle of a deal moved the mouse pointer over another deal, the deal didn't switch. If memory serves, players' names would change but the cards not. Only closing Bridge Movie and clicking Movie again solved this and I was able to see other deals. (I suppose this isn't a new v. 4.1.0 feature? I haven't tested if it works while I'm playing at all, so don't know...) When I returned to the Lobby, I soon noticed some people's flags were missing. And if I tried to edit my own profile, the Country select box was empty. These two oddities (flags and movie) don't seem to have any connection, but who knows. 42
I also had this problem several times (but not always!!) since using the 4.xx beta version (windows xp home edition, sygate firewall and avg antivirus) :) As far as I can remember I also used the "movie", but cannot say if it was related to the flag-disappearing. Yesterday I had to restart my pc since log off and log in again did not help. I played about 2 hours and also chatted a lot :P Does anybody else use the sygate firewall? When playing at BBO sometimes a message pops up which says that a blabla.exe was blocked (I am in my office right now and forgot the name, I am really no pc expert, but it was something like ntkrnl.exe or so). I cannot change anything with that (look above...), perhaps that causes some trouble?????Caren
Dwingo
This doesn't seem to be a problem with 4.1.0 only. I have 4.0.9 and I noticed today that many of my friends were missing their flags. However I noticed this just now. I am not sure if this problem existed earlier. As I moused through the Lobby Player list, I estimate that 25% of the players were missing their flags. Godwin
fred
Here's the story (at least what we know about it so far): The problem started in version 4.0.8. For those of you with programming knowledge, the only change between 4.0.7 and 4.0.8 was that I switched to a more recent version of Microsoft's Visual C++ compiler. The reason I did this is because the new version of the compiler contains some nice tools for tracking down the causes of "crashes" (the new editor also happens to be a lot nicer than the old one). Whatever typo or logic error in the program code causes this problem has been around for a while, but when the code was compiled with the old compiler it had a different effect (or no perceptable effect at all). A key piece of memory is now getting trampled (more specifically, the global variable that keep track of the number of countries is being reset to zero). This bug does not happen as soon as you log in. Some specific event triggers it. As far as I can tell this event only happens if you are playing. Thanks to Pinochio, I now have reason to believe that this event is not the result of an interaction with the BBO server - instead it seems to be triggered by some user interface event (such as clicking or mousing over a particular place on the screen or perhaps in the Movie window as some posts here have suggested). Once I am able to figure out which specific event is causing this to happen, it will likely take me only a few minutes to fix it. Most likely I will create a new version soon that contains some diagnostic tools that attempt to track this down. Stay tuned for more news...
