LHaupt
Sayc's identification of NT are hcp, for ex. 15-17 hcp for 1NT, and stating no singleton, no void, at most 1 doubleton. That means hands of 4333, 4432 and 5 (of a minor)332.What to bid and what to enter into the yc when the hand is showing 17hcp plus the one long suit point of the fifth minor? :D
Free
Hi welcome to the forum! :D Ok, let me get this straight: you want to know what to do with a 17HCP hand with a 5 card (which you count as 18 points)? It's all a matter of handevaluation. If you say a 5 card is worth another HCP, then so it is. Nothing in the system states that you can't bid something else than you actually hold, and in general a difference of 1HCP is always acceptable. If you consider your hand worth 18+HCP, then just bid natural and jump to 2NT.If you consider your hand 15-17, open 1NT.If you consider your hand less than 15HCP, then open and rebid 1NT or pass if you're too weak to open. This also means that you might open 1NT on a 14HCP hand with a 5 card, since you consider it as a 15HCP hand.
