My first observation is that there was no double on Hand 10.

I have seen much worse. The first one I might have contemplated myself, except that I would, of course, have suggested clubs. But we know that GIB can't do such kind of things.

 

The second one is a bit lazy since it could have asked for keycards, but I can imagine that simulations show that 7♣ makes most of the time.

Yes, don't hang partner for not having the perfect hand check for keycards. You should be sure when bidding grands, Gib just blasts when it thinks it has some chance.

Especially irritating about the first hand is that after the belated Spade raise, the 5D call was instantaneous. It would be interesting to look into the significance of GIB calls that are out of normal tempo. Certainly I had a completely appropriate hand for my actions up to that point.

 

As for the second hand, the whole point of Blackwood is to check for controls on hand that are known to be in the slam zone - similar to saying that in most simulations, slam will make. There is no excuse whatsoever for not using it when available. This time perhaps I stretched just a bit for 3C but should we even be in a grand if I have the CA instead of the Q?

I haven't particularly noticed GIB varying tempo in bidding; however, if GIB hesitates before playing a card, it's (seemingly) always because he's not able to follow suit.
