Having said that, is there much need for an invitational bid that partner will accept with a 12 count, including 2 Jacks? Mightn't it be more useful to have the invite show approximately 19 HCP, which partner would presumably accept with 14 or a gilt-edged 13? Before anyone suggest I should have started with an inverted raise vice 2♣ do consider how little information gets exchanged in those sequences. Those Souths who did so on this hand found out, by the time they reached 3NT and had to decide whether to go on, that North had 3+♦s, 5-♠s, 5-♥s and 11-21 HCP (presumably reduced to 18 HCP by the best-hand feature). Very helpful.
Bbradley62
What 4N shows should be irrelevant; 4N asks partner to pass if he is in the lower half of his designated strength range, and to continue if he is in the upper half. Simplistically, North here is in the lower half (12 on an 11-14 range) so he should be programmed to pass.
georgi
Thanks for reporting. Fixed in v31 ( as it simming to advance for slam ). Similar issue as in another 4NT -> 6NT post.
