Good friend of mine showed me this hand and I thought it was interesting. So there, what would you do?

Random game, Main Club, unknown partner, but presumably an "expert only" table.

IMPs, all vul. You pass in 1st, then bidding comes back to you as follows:

[hv=pc=n&s=sjt9xxxhadqxcqt9x&d=s&v=b&a=p1h2d4h]133|200[/hv]

I think 4S should work just fine. You would like to dble for t/o but it is unlikely partner will now bid S. These positions are awkward to judge not knowing the habits of the current players at the table. For me 2D is not some weakish o/c and should deliever opening values barring a shapely 2 suited hand. Double can not be penalty but lacks any real defensive values should partner elect to pass which is possible. 3-3-6-1 they will likely pass and 4S becomes a really nice looking spot.

Not even close to an opening bid IMHO. Even 2S strikes me as a poor option.

Opening 1s is a joke. I can live with 2s. I bid 4s now.

It may be a joke playing 2/1, but pretty normal playing precision or Acol with those intermediates.

I also can't have this exact hand, as I'd have opened it 1, but 4 now is almost certainly this type of hand.

I would not open this hand 1S playing Acol or precision and I have played both for many years. I would only open at the 1 level playing lobs.

I agree.

2 is okay, but then this does not promise opening bid values.

ACOL and precision are not strong pass systems, but some people apparently do not know the difference.

Thanks all for the replies and votes. When i was given this hand I also voted for 4. My friend grumbled "Of course you would" then told me he was booted from the table and called "senile" for making that bid. I was curious how many senile bidders like us were out there :) If it matters, his pd had nothing resembling a 2 vul overcall (some 6-7 HCP 6-carder diams) so ofc 4S was not a success, even undoubled.

I bid 4 spade now.

About previous bidding, I think even the thought of opening 2 sp is ugly. I would not open 1 sp either and I am pretty light opener. But to me light opening does not mean any 6-4 and any 9 count. Just like 2 sp does not mean any 6 card suit with less than opening at 1 level. Even if I am playing strong club system this hand is as fugly as it can be.
