This auction almost doesn't exist for me. Partner is supposed to reopen almost anything that could respond when 2S comes around. So if I want to bid 2N to show 18-19, I really want to pass so P can x. If she bids something else, I can always bid 3N.

I would only bid on over 2S to show a H fit, or to show something really imbalanced, so 2N is out.

If my partner bids it, we have a little discussion on trusting me and partnership bidding theory after the hand.

yes, why does 2NT in the first seq. promises add. strenght?

2NT forces the partnership to play on the 3 level.

Does this reason become invalid, when they intervene?

Just because they make a weak bid, does this make our hand

stronger?

In general, I would suggest playing 2NT in the 2nd seq. as art.

Lebensohl style, since the intervention killed space, and to get

some space back, you need art.

With kind regards

Marlowe

All system choices have holes (main reason preeepmts

work) so each partnership must choose how to gain the most

(imps) or gain the most often (mp) from each situation.

The standard interpretation (in both sequences) of 2n

(over 2s) showing extra values (and a spade stop(s)) tries

to cover the most likely probabilities in conjunction with

x showing extra values but no clear direction. This series

cannot show partner the difference between a 3 or 4 card

heart hand unless it is by never raising with 3 card support

A AKx Kxxxx Axxx would have to pass or bid 2n for ex.

If you use support x you have no bid available to show

hands similar to xxx KQ KJxxx AKQ (opening 1n with such

hands to avoid these rebid problems will lose out on a

variety of other hands). These partnerships either have to

expand the meaning of 2n to include hands with no spade stop

or pass (or make a really ugly looking 3d bid).

Most stick with the standard version since showing 3 card

heart support in general is not always a bargain much less

when forcing the partnership to the 3 level. The sequences

are aimed at showing different types of hands and each partner-

ship needs to decide what makes them the happiest overall.
