movingon
Are there tips out there as to how to handle a 1 di opener (by opponent)that shows 2+ dis and 11-15 hcp? the pair plays precision with a 15-17 hcp 1nt opener. This pair apparently opens 1 di with any hand with less than 15 hcp that has at least 2 dis and no 5 card major(even a decent 5 card club suit is allowed). Thanks in advance! chasetb
There are three ways to handle this:1.) If you double 1♦ and then bid 2♦ or 3 ♦, that it shows a real diamond suit.2.) Bidding 2♦ directly shows 5+ and an overcalling hand. With a Michaels hand, X and then bid 2♦.3.) Forget the fact that 1♦ might 'only be 2' and play what you normally do! According to Jan Eric Larsson (creator of the Tangerine Club), only 10% of the time will 1♦ have 2 and only 19% of the time will it be on 3. Therefore, 71% of the time it will be on 4+. In my established partnerships, I play #2 because we have discussed all the possibilities and so shouldn't have any mistakes With any pick-up partner, I play #3. We will be better off than the room because we won't make a mistake worrying about Diamonds.
PhilKing
Just treat it as "natural" but accept that double makes few promises about clubs (for example, with a 4432 12 count, you can double 1♦ with no guilt - lacking a major, partner can respond 1NT without a stop). Other sequences are unchanged, so opposite an overcall, 2♦ is a raise. Pass then diamonds is natural, of course, as are any single jumps in diamonds.

I'll take the under - it's pretty much a nailed-on recipe for disaster.

PhilKing
How is this different than against standard? :P Baby steps. The truth is we would probably both double with a 4441 with a stiff club, but let's get there one card at a time.
