inquiry
Partner has most of our defensive values, so I would hope he or she has lead from a long suit. Declarer likely has only 2♥, so 3=2=4=4 or 3=2=3=5 are possible. I guess, partner could have five spades as well, as opener might be 2=2 in the majors and 5-4 either way in the minors. Anyway, I am going to try to set up partner's 4th spade. I see nothing wrong with winning this spade and returning one. If I am not winning it, I will play whichever spade is "encouraging". But I don't see a need to encourage, declarer has two spade tricks, so let's get out of partners way. If I felt like partner was trying to hit my suit, I would discourage in spades. But partner has most our values (as much as 10 as few as 8) so I will try to cooperate with him.
