Gib E lead 5,dummy 2,Gib strangely play 3?

It is a simple mistake.

Or East thought that the lead was from K95 and gave at least one of West's aces to South.

0 is very small. There is small but not 0 chance that the 5 will hold!

 

but I would stop playing with a partner that made that deduction for at least a week. lol
