But yes, I believe GIB uses HCP for NT contracts, and TP for suit. I think I'll change my point to say this. Strangely,3NT is alerted as " 4+♠,17-hcp,13+total points".Gib E uses Total Points for 3NT instead of HCP.
1eyedjack
Yes it has been something of a bugbear of mine. Although in my case it is usually a raise of a minor suit. I have some sympathy, because in my cases (minor suit raises) it *IS* after all raising a suit. The problem with that is that in the case of a constructive minor suit raise, or even a pre-emptive raise opposite a powerhouse, the practical reality is that the game contract in you sights is almost always 3N, for which HCP, not TP, is relevant. Not an easy problem to solve.
Bbradley62
And, if East is going to go to game after West's 1NT rebid (or even investigate it), and East hold 5+♠, he should bid 2♣ on the way, to see if West has 3 spades.
steve2005
GIB is counting pts for a singleton in opener's first bid suit. This easy way to get too high when hands don't fit well
