1eyedjack
I have some sympathy for members for whom English (or rather English character set) is not first language. Anyway I have only specified 3 possible precise sizes. Some members may have preferred to vote for some other specified size and regret its omission. C'est la vie. Maybe a followup poll to refine the answer if there is a clear majority for one of those provided here. Example 1: 380 x 270[hv=lin=pn|1eyedjack,~~M7963cs4,~~M80068lt,~~M8128901|st%7C%7Cmd%7C2S8H47JKD4TJQAC579%2CS46JAH38QD2C48TJK%2CS5TH256TAD36KC36A%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%204%7Csv%7Cb%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C2S%7Can%7CWeak%20two%20bid%20--%206%2B%20%21S%3B%205-11%20HCP%20%7Cmb%7Cd%7Can%7C3-5%20%21C%3B%203-5%20%21D%3B%203-4%20%21H%3B%202-%20%21S%3B%2013%2B%20total%7Cmb%7C4S%7Can%7CThe%20Law%3A%2010%20trump%20-%3E%20game%20support%20--%202%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%2012-%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cd%21%7Can%7CResponsive%20double%20--%203%2B%20%21C%3B%203%2B%20%21D%3B%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%2012%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7C3-5%20%21C%3B%205%20%21D%3B%203-4%20%21H%3B%202-%20%21S%3B%2013-18%20total%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CDQ%7C]380|270[/hv] Example 2: 420 x 300[hv=lin=pn|1eyedjack,~~M6191ngt,~~M6259x4e,~~M6501rpr|st%7C%7Cmd%7C2S4QH27JKD69AC27KA%2CS3H3489QD7TC569TJ%2CS5TKH56AD248JQC3Q%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%208%7Csv%7Co%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1D%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7C3S%7Can%7CAggressive%20weak%20jump%20overcall%20--%207%2B%20%21S%3B%2010-%20HCP%3B%203%2B%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cd%7Can%7CNegative%20double%20--%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2010%2B%20total%20poin%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4D%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2017-18%20total%20points%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cmc%7C12%7C]420|300[/hv] Example 3: 499 x 350[hv=lin=pn|1eyedjack,~~M41256,~~M41254,~~M41255|st%7C%7Cmd%7C2S2359KH2TJKAD46KC%2CS47TJH349D2TQC34A%2CSH8D789C25679TJQK%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%2012%7Csv%7Cn%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4C%7Can%7CPreempt%20--%207%2B%20%21C%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%203%2B%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5C%7Can%7C1%2B%20%21C%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cmc%7C11%7C]499|350[/hv]
lycier
Size "499|350" - let readers feel comfortable, such diagram is very clear,I think this still is BBF default size.
Antrax
Should probably ask mobile users. My 27" screen can deal with whatever you throw at it.

1eyedjack
Presumably those with a preference for either extreme size would choose the middle road as second preference. If the extremes are broadly equally popular then I would suggest the middle road. Mobile use is a valid concern.

1eyedjack
Can EW achieve a better result on this deal? West opens 7NT Had I realised that 399 x 300 was the default then I would have set that as the middle option. Still, it is barely any different, so I shall leave the poll as is. Bbradley62
Note that the diagrams are on a 4x3 scale, meaning that they "want" dimensions such that the height (second number) is 3/4 of the length (first number). In your first example, the diagram is 380 wide but since it is only 270 high, it only "needs" 360 wide, which is why there appears to be a white section at the right of the diagram. If you change the settings to 360|270, the diagram will not change at all, except that the white section would disappear.
1eyedjack
Given that the aspect ratio is constant it seems odd that you get the choice to specify both dimensions.

Even so, my original point remains valid: For any given content the aspect ratio is unchangeable and requires only one dimension to be defined. All that your latest example shows is that different content requires different (but constant in context) aspect ratios.
barmar
The forum code for displaying diagrams doesn't try to figure out what's in the diagram (whether it's one hand or all four), so it doesn't know what the proper aspect ratio should be. The code that creates the diagram knows, so it can specify the proper height and width when it inserts it. If you're inserting by hand, you have to do the same thing. lycier
Size "499|350" - let readers feel comfortable, such diagram is very clear. If the diagram is small than "499|350",it is too small for me since I can't see your diagram clearly.
