I have some sympathy for members for whom English (or rather English character set) is not first language. Anyway I have only specified 3 possible precise sizes. Some members may have preferred to vote for some other specified size and regret its omission. C'est la vie. Maybe a followup poll to refine the answer if there is a clear majority for one of those provided here.

Example 1: 380 x 270

When I create a full-deal diagram, using the BBF editor,

399 x 300 is the default size.

Can EW achieve a better result on this deal?[/hv]

Note that the diagrams are on a 4x3 scale, meaning that they "want" dimensions such that the height (second number) is 3/4 of the length (first number). In your first example, the diagram is 380 wide but since it is only 270 high, it only "needs" 360 wide, which is why there appears to be a white section at the right of the diagram. If you change the settings to 360|270, the diagram will not change at all, except that the white section would disappear.

Given that the aspect ratio is constant it seems odd that you get the choice to specify both dimensions.

Different dimensions are appropriate for different kinds of diagram.

e.g. One hand, One hand with auction, NS, EW, full-deal, full deal with comments, full deal with commentary on the play.

This is a diagram for one hand with auction and comments.

Default dimensions 133 x 200.[/hv]

Wow that is the first time that I recollect being able to award two up-votes to a post.

Even so, my original point remains valid: For any given content the aspect ratio is unchangeable and requires only one dimension to be defined. All that your latest example shows is that different content requires different (but constant in context) aspect ratios.

The forum code for displaying diagrams doesn't try to figure out what's in the diagram (whether it's one hand or all four), so it doesn't know what the proper aspect ratio should be. The code that creates the diagram knows, so it can specify the proper height and width when it inserts it. If you're inserting by hand, you have to do the same thing.
