Lord Molyb
duck, ruff next diamond, draw 4 rounds of trumps, ♥AK and ♦A. Presumably west has 7 diamonds and if I try taking the ace at trick one it will be ruffed. My line makes if east doesn't have all 5 trumps and he has a long heart and 5 clubs with the ♥J ♣K. Presumably he'll discard on the first two tricks. When I cash the ♦A the end position will be [hv=pc=n&s=shqtdcaq2&w=shdjt8c76&n=shda9c543&e=shj9dckjt]399|300[/hv] Or similar. There's probably a better line though. Edited May 28, 2014 by Lord Molyb
inquiry
My solution is in the spoiler. It is possible, and maybe likely, that East is void in diamonds. If West has seven diamonds, he is void, if West has six, East is void. If East has five spades, I don't think I can make it. IF East has four spades, I don't care if he ruffs my !DA, as I will score two ruffs in dummy most likely. If East's can't ruff, I go about my business of pulling trumps, taking the club hook, and maybe even endplaying East in clubs for heart away from Jx late. Let's assume East ruffs. My plan now is to ruff one heart and one club in dummy (throwing a club on the ♥Queen. I can ruff two cards in dummy because East is down to only thtee trumps after ruffing in. Likely continuation. Win Spade with Ace, cash heart AK, win club hook, Cash heart queen-throw club, ruff club, ruff diamond, ruff heart. lead diamond up. I win 5♠ in my hand, 2♣, and 3♥ and two ruffs in dummy. That;s the plan anyway, If East follows the diamond, the plan is to endplay him in clubs for a forced lead up to the ♥QT late in the hand. The basic idea is to pull trumps, cash a heart, take a club hook, cash heart king, win club Ace, play last trump. If East is holding on to the ♥Jx and club, throw him in with the club for a heart lead. It is probably simpler just to ruff the heart ten in dummy, however.
