Bbradley62
I know we're supposed to put each issue in a separate thread, but these two issues may be intertwined, so I have them together here.[hv=lin=pn|bbradley62,~~M31162,~~M31160,~~M31161|st%7C%7Cmd%7C3S29TJKHAD379TKAC8%2CS678AH3457JD5C5JK%2CS45H89QKD468QC37T%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%205%7Csv%7Cn%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1D%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1H%7Can%7COne%20over%20one%20--%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%206-12%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21H%3B%204%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20to%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C2D%7Can%7C3%2B%20%21D%3B%204%2B%20%21H%3B%206-11%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C3S%7Can%7C6%2B%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21H%3B%206%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%204-card%20%21D%3B%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4N%7Can%7CBlackwood%20%28D%29%20--%203%2B%20%21D%3B%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2011%2B%20HCP%3B%2011-%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5C%7Can%7CZero%20or%20three%20key%20cards%20--%206%2B%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21H%3B%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7CSignoff%20--%203%2B%20%21D%3B%204%2B%20%21H%3B%2011%2B%20HCP%3B%2011-%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C6D%7Can%7CCorrect%20back%20-%203%2F4%20Key%20cards%20--%206%2B%20%21D%3B%203%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cmc%7C12%7C]360|270[/hv]First: I wanted to show an above-minimum opener that wasn't strong enough to jump shift. (Some may think I'm strong enough to j-s, but that's not relevant to the discussion of GIB's understanding of the possible sequences.) Therefore, I refrained from jump-shifting at my first opportunity, then jumped at my next chance. 3♠ was explained as 19-22total. At another table, South opened 1♦ then jumped to 2♠ after 1♥; this was also explained as 19-22total. Shouldn't my sequence be something more like 16-18? Second: It's my understanding that when I have the higher of my two possible keycard holdings, I am supposed to "correct back", or over-rule partner's attempted sign-off. Am I supposed to refraining from doing that on hands like this, where I've shown a strong hand that really couldn't possibly have no keycards? steve2005
ill add two questions? 1) why is south being listed as having 6 spades. surely this only shows 5 spades 2) north doesn't have a keycard and has a pretty min hand why even Keycard? just bid 4♦ and set trump and let the big hand take control
Antrax
North's keycard really is atrocious. GIB uses blackwood like beginners do, as a slam invite.
steve2005
North's keycard really is atrocious. GIB uses blackwood like beginners do, as a slam invite. There only one thing more annoying than a weak hand bidding keycard and that's one making a general slam try of 5 of a major which GIB also loves to do.
